What A Weekend at the (Belated) Alderley Edge May Fair!
18 Sep 2021Yep, the Alderley Edge May Fair is BACK, and back with a bang. Ok, a little later than usual, but better late than never – and some things are worth waiting for. After 2020’s event falling victim to the first lockdown, it made perfect sense for the committee to hang fire on this year’s fair. After all, nobody wants any more disappointment – least of all those who’ve worked hard to keep businesses and enterprises afloat, or those who have been looking forward to something fun after a truly rotten year. In the end, it was EVERYTHING anyone could have wished for, and then some. What a fabulous, family day out here in Cheshire.
To quote the Alderley Edge May Fair Facebook Page:
“Well, that’s a wrap, folks. We hope you had a fantastic time! Massive thanks to the whole May Fair committee for all their efforts and hard work pulling off a fantastic event and one to certainly remember.
Huge hats off to Paul Marshall, our head honcho, for all his hard work and dedication in delivering a wonderful event for the community, thank you Paul. Thank you to all our traders, sponsors, visitors, parade participants, musicians and everyone who helped make this year so special. See you in 2022!”
As per usual, Friday Night was party night, starting from 5pm. We enjoyed family rounders, five-a-side football and a Junior fun run. Those of us less keen on the more active activities made good use of the street food traders and bar, while loving the music, comedy, and funfair. Headline act, the brilliant Abba tribute, UK Bjorn went down every bit as well as expected and some of us continued dancing into our favourite bars afterwards.
Saturday was, as ever jam-packed full and choc-a-block with fabulous fun for everyone. The traditional parade through the village was followed immediately with fun, games and a dog show on the park. Everywhere we looked, there was entertainment. In fact, there seemed to be an event or an entertainer in every single corner, nook and cranny of the park. All the fun of the fair was added to with market stalls – over EIGHTY artisans – food, drink, music and even a big wheel. Who needs the Manchester Eye?!
Paul Marshall, Organising Committee, said:
“We are all pleased that after two false starts we can put The May Fair on again. From the conversations I have had in the village, plenty of people are looking forward to enjoying each other’s company again. With the usual mix of sports, music, market stalls, the parade, fairground rides, dog show and local community groups, there will be plenty for every generation.”
Events like the Alderley Edge May Fair are just another aspect of how wonderful our village is, and illustrates even more just why I Love Alderley Edge!
