Bramhall Annual Duck Race 2015 – Photos

27 May 2015

Quack! Quack! It may sound like a silly idea but it makes a great day; sending 1000’s of dressed-up plastic ducks down a river is extraordinarily good fun.

Bramhall And Woodford Rotary Club held their Annual Duck Race and Family Fun Day at Bramhall Park on Sunday May 17th 2015.

The sponsors were Mosley Jarman Estate Agents and Barclays Bank and the money raised will be shared between the Valley School and other charities supported by the Rotary Club.

Thousands of families gathered to cheer along the “big” dressed up ducks and were able to bet on their own little ducks, all floating gracefully down the river, gently aided by the Scouts who bravely rolled up their trousers and got thoroughly wet!

The winners of the big duck race were:

Race 1: 1st  – NFU Mutual, 2nd – Sainsburys, 3rd – The Board Cafe

Race 2: 1st – Bramhall Flowers,  2nd – HSBC, 3rd Millie’s Trust

Race 3: 1st – The Church Inn, 2nd – Hudson, 3rd – The Victorian

Race 5: 1st – Ryan Jake, 2nd – Tangs, 3rd – The Dog Spa (who also won the best decorated duck cup)

Once again we had Yellow Duck Bus that ferried visitors for free from Bramhall Village to the Park.

As well as gift stalls, fairground attractions and lots of lovely food we were also able to see our local talent on stage.  The stages sponsored and were the Imagine FM stage, Almond Pubs Stage and Courtyard stage.  Many acts were performing including Jessica Richardson who was the winner of Headlander Festival “I Love Bramhall Open Mic Competition” last year and Bramhall High School Orchestra.

The school choir competition was won by St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School, Romiley and Second place went to Pownall Green and third place was Moss Hey Primary. The judges found it difficult to pick a winner as they were all excellent.

We even held our own Great Bramhall Bake Off! It was evident that so much effort went into the entries however the proud winners are:

18+ 1st – Joanne Watts, 2nd – Nicky Jones and Under 18: 1st – Davy G, 2nd – Edward J.

Prizes were: 1st Prize – Breadmaking Masterclass with Scott Peters of Bramhall Bakery & Rotary engraved breadboard and 2nd  place was a Hamper – Lakeland’s Mary Berry goodies – Rotary engraved Cake Stand and Tala goodies. The standard in both groups was very high as always.

“A big thank you from Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club to everyone who came and made it such a fantastic day would be good – and we’re already talking about how to make next year’s even better!”

Sunrise’s Director of Community Relations, Dawn Williams, said:

“We were thrilled to be able to support the duck race again, which has become a major local event here in Bramhall.
We were also very pleased with the performance of our own duck, Dotty, who came 4th out of 20 in the Sunrise Sprint!”

Constantly improving their facilities, the Valley School were the main charity that will be receiving the profits from this year’s Duck Race.  They are a local school in Bramhall that caters mainly for children with special needs and with this money they are going to help fund their Sensory Integration project.

Their project is made up of two key elements: the design, development and installation of an on-site sensory integration room incorporating suspension equipment and the design and development of a shared, outside sensory integration area, external to two of the classrooms providing access to swinging, bouncing, spinning and rocking activities.

A sensory integration (SI) room is a space adapted to facilitate the use of a range of swinging and spinning suspended pieces of equipment. An SI room provides the range of movement experiences needed to support children in developing self-regulation and improvement to their engagement with their school experience. For us to develop these facilities onsite we would need funds to convert our current soft play space in to a SI room.

Sensory integration is an approach delivered primarily under the supervision of specialist Occupational Therapists. Programmes are planned and delivered to help children receive, process and make sense of the information provided by their senses and to compensate for difficulties of over and under sensitivity to stimuli.
