
Bramhall Businesses support Hearing Dogs Charity
18 Oct 2015Local Cheshire resident Richard Carr and his faithful hearing dog Cameron have raised thousands of pounds for national charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Bramhall businesses have sponsored Cameron’s Great British Dog walk and they are thankful to the following for their support – Mounteney Solicitors, Sainsburys, Snapes Letting Agents, Butcher and Barlow, NJT Solicitor and Scope Charity
Cameron is a specially trained hearing dog who helps his deaf partner Richard, 50, with daily life. He helps Richard maintain his confidence and independence by alerting him to everyday sounds like the doorbell, cooker timer, alarm clock and danger sounds like the smoke and burglar alarms.
The pair who live in Cheshire, walked more than 75,000 miles together as part of the Great British Dog Walk and have raised over £5,00 for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Richard who has been deaf since birth, said: ‘Cameron has helped me so much – he alerts me to sounds, but is also the best companion’.
Community Fundraising Manager for the North West, Rachel Hassey says: ‘Richard and Cameron are fantastic advocates for our charity and have volunteered a lot of time and effort to raise a life-changing amount of funds to help more deaf adults and children’.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a registered charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to household sounds and danger signals such as the doorbell, telephone and smoke alarm – providing life-changing independence and confidence. The Charity also has its own breeding scheme. Hearing Dogs provides a national service and no charge is made to recipients. Since its inception in 1982, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has placed more than 1750 hearing dogs and has around 800 current working partnerships.
