Bramhall Photographer Captures the Cathedral

10 Aug 2016

Bramhall’s very own aspiring photographer Sarah Bell has seized an opportunity these past few weeks. A few of us already know of her talent, but it’s sure to expand to a larger number after this!

Manchester Cathedral are currently hosting their annual photography competition called ‘Capture the Cathedral.’ The winning entries and a few other entries from this year’s exhibition will be shown in the Cathedral from Saturday 30th July to Wednesday 24th August 2016. Whilst the exhibition is on display, members of the public will be given the opportunity to vote for ‘The People’s Choice’.

There were three categories that photographers could enter:

  1. Stain Glass Windows and Architecture
  2. Cathedral at night
  3. Something different

The first category is the one which interests us, as Sarah Bell entered it with her stunning capture of the stone face of the side of the cathedral, called ‘Hiding in the Tree.’ Out of over 200 entrants, she made the cut to be one of the handful of finalists! What a fantastic achievement!

Wendy from iLoveBramhall.com has always supported Sarah and her work, after meeting her through Maggie at Crookilley Crafts. They have work together on a number of occasions with Moxie Mingle networking events, and Sarah volunteered to photograph the Big Bramhall Tea Party 2015 and Bramhall Festival in 2015 for the Bramhall Together Trust to name a few. Another piece of work she’s done in Bramhall was helping Friends of Lumb Lane Park when the restoration project was being applied for. Since the application has been submitted, it has been granted and work is soon to be underway to restore the park! A massive part of this wonderful news is due to the work Sarah put in with the rest of the team!

Sarah’s photography journey started about two years ago after a stint of being a nursery teacher. She studied photography at Aquinas College where she learnt the basics before developing into the established photographer she is today. Events is Sarah’s speciality, so if you’ve got anything upcoming – give her a call!

A ‘jack of all trades’ is something that could be said about Sarah with her current work situation. Not only does she take fabulous photos, she also sells crafts in Crookilley Crafts in Bramhall Village Square AND is currently writing a set of children’s books and waiting for them to get published! Sarah is very excited about finding a local illustrator for these books to provide the wonderful companion to her writing.

Sarah placed a massive weight of gratitude onto Wendy, saying

“I just wanted to let you know [about the competition entry and success] because you giving me so much work over the last year has given me a bit of self confidence and it is paying off! So thank you!”

We all share the same well wishes for you Sarah and hope you win the people’s choice award. If you’d like to go and see the exhibition yourself, please do so – It ends on the 24th August. Just make sure you vote for Sarah in the people’s choice! We aren’t allowed to show you how beautiful the picture is, so you’ll have to go and see it yourself!
