Bramhall Residents Have Spoken!

Bramhall Residents Have Spoken! …and the Friends of Lumb Lane listened!

The friends of Lumb Lane Park (FoLLP) carried out a community consultation review during October 2015, the depressing findings were no surprise to the group as the results only confirmed what they already knew, the people of Bramhall don’t think much of the park.

The survey also shows that the majority of locals think there is not much to do there (60%) and that other parks have more to offer (75%).

The majority of the respondents (30%) said that they only visit Lumb Lane Park a few times a year, a huge and sad contrast to the 5% that visit it daily, a truly shocking finding as Lumb Lane Park is the only green space in Central Bramhall.

Nearly half of the respondents (45%) said they visit the park to get some fresh air, ride scooters and do sports, and an overwhelming majority (87%) of people do visit the park for its play facilities but only because its their only local option, they rated the facilities for children as very poor (60%) or poor (27%), only highlighting the urgent need to renovate the play equipment.

However, the majority of respondents did agree on 3 things, that they would visit the park if the play area were modernised (90%), if the park provided better sitting areas (60%), and if it was cleaner (70%), all which the group hopes to improve when they secure the funding.

The group carried out a further consultation during December 2015 to ask for help choosing the climbing frame for the park, they provided a shortlist of 3 carefully selected pieces of equipment, the community chose the Wicksteed Galahad (51%) which would benefit children from a wide range of ages and abilities.

Alejandra Solis, Chair of the Friends of Lumb Lane Park, said: “We are really pleased with how much we have achieved in such a short period of time, we have already secured 1/4 of the money we need to regenerate the playground, alongside Stockport Council we are applying for a big grant this week (13 Jan) and if we are successful we would secure the total amount needed to start work.”

She continues: “We are overwhelmed by the incredible letters of support we have received from such a wide range of businesses and groups in our friendly village, including Pownall Green Primary School, BMC Preschool, The Railway Nursery, The Bramhall Together Trust, I Love Bramhall, local councilor Alanna Vine, The 1st Bramhall Scouts, Mountfield Rovers and St Michael’s Parish Church – we just want to say THANK YOU!”

The FoLLP is a group of local residents working together to improve the play facilities of their park; they hope to raise funds to provide a better suited play area for children.

Their aim is to provide a safe space where families can meet up, play, relax, exercise and develop relationships, to build a stronger community and to make Bramhall an even better place to live.
