Bramhall Village Square: the core of our community

22 Oct 2018

Bramhall Village Square is a hub of activity right in the heart of the community. Home to more than 40 businesses as well as our very own urban playground, the precinct is the perfect place to pick up some groceries, try on a new outfit, shop for gifts – and enjoy a tasty lunch in between.

I Love Bramhall met up with Jenny Dockney and Paul Wrigglesworth of landowning company HIMOR to find out just what makes our precinct so special.

Acquiring Bramhall Village Square in 2011, HIMOR has since fully refurbished the precinct, adding the central play area that has become a popular attraction for families with youngsters aged nine and under. The company has also modernised the buildings and offices within the square, demolished the unsightly former toilet block to make room for business parking and resurfaced the access roads to the rear of the precinct.

Home to 43 businesses, the Village Square can boast 100% occupancy. Only one rental space is currently closed to the public, but not for long – the soon-to-be opened restaurant and takeaway Pix Pizza is due to launch towards the end of this year.

With events taking place regularly at the square and a constant level of footfall at the shops, Bramhall precinct really is the place to be. There are hairdressers, cafes, charity shops, bars and restaurants among the many businesses operating from the Bramhall base, some of which have been resident at the precinct for years. However, even relative newcomers like Long Bar and Anytime Fitness have quickly established themselves as valued additions to the village’s retail scene.

At what’s perhaps an uncertain time for many businesses, the Village Square’s high retention rate is testament to the positive reciprocal relationship between HIMOR and their occupiers. Jenny and Paul are committed to being actively involved in both business and community life here in Bramhall. Visiting the square at least once a week, they’re always on hand to speak to business owners, working with the businesses to ensure that Bramhall Village Square continues to thrive for everyone involved.

Community endeavours, meanwhile, include close working partnerships with local causes the Bramhall Together Trust – of which Jenny is a committee member – and Bramhall and Woodford Rotary. HIMOR supports both organisations by facilitating fundraising events like Light Up Bramhall and the Scarecrow Festival. Recently, the Village Square also demonstrated its commitment to local youth football club Mountfield Rovers, becoming a key sponsor and donating some quality new kit for the club’s budding Bramhall-based football teams.

Both Jenny and Paul are keen to encourage Bramhall residents to spend time at the Village Square and ensure the precinct remains a sustainable place to shop, work and enjoy leisure activities. As such, HIMOR is always planning the next big thing to attract visitors to the area. Later this month the Village Square will be brought to life – or rather, the afterlife – in an exciting spooky spectacular to mark Halloween.

During the daytime on Saturday October 27th, the precinct will be haunted by some ghoulish visitors from the Players Theatre, accompanied by some spine-tingling tunes courtesy of Absolute DJs. The highlight of the event will be a fun fancy dress parade around the square, so prepare for a scare if you’re passing by – the precinct will be packed with witches, ghosts, vampires and otherwise suitably spookily attired guests.
