Bramhall & Woodford Rotary fundraiser

6 May 2014

Bramhall and Woodford Rotary will be raising money once again for Walthew House at the Bramhall Duck Race.

Bramhall & Woodford Rotary have been helping Walthew House out for an awfully long time now. They’ve spent hours out on dark nights and freezing days raising money for them. The kind souls also put in much needed manpower hours to do things like picking up visually impaired people to attend Walthew House, preparing their newsletter for mailing, helping at bag packs and even zipwiring across the Manchester Ship Canal to raise extra cash!

As a small independent charity for people with sight and hearing loss, receiving no government funding, Walthew House really rely on this kind of support from local people and organisations to continue our work.

Around 250 people access one or more of the volunteer led services Walthew House provides each week including:

  • A not for profit equipment resource centre, selling equipment to aid independence like talking watches, clocks and kitchen gadgets, amplified phones, large print items and magnifiers.
  • Social activities and classes for adults including art and craft, steel band, luncheon club and trips out, with groups catering for the specific needs of sign language users, people who are hard of hearing and people with sight loss.
  • A weekly youth club where all activities are fully inclusive for sign language users and young people with little or no sight
  • An information helpdesk, regular newsletter produced in large print, audio formats, braille and as a British Sign Language DVD
  • A free counselling service for people with a sight loss
  • Braille and audio transcription services

This year they are absolutely thrilled to be part of the Duck Race in Bramhall Park. All of the proceeds from the day will go to Walthew House and Beacon Counselling and the Rotary have been working incredibly hard to raise as much as they can and make it a brilliant day. They’d like to say a huge thank to them and to everyone who’s supported them! Look forward to seeing you there!
