Christian Aid Week 10th to 16th May 2021
30 Apr 2021Christian Aid Week
Many of you will know that for one week every May, volunteers from local churches have in the past delivered red Christian Aid envelopes to your doorstep in Bramhall and Woodford….and then return to collect them at the end of the week.
Over the years we have raised about £8000 a year, due to Coronavirus in 2020 we didn’t undertake local collections and therefore the level of donations made direct to Christian Aid were very low by comparison.
What is Christian Aid?
Christian Aid is the official relief and development agency of 41 Christian churches in the UK and Ireland, and works to support sustainable development, eradicate poverty, support civil society and provide disaster relief in South America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Christian Aid works with poor and vulnerable communities of all faiths or none, in over 30 countries through nearly 500 local partners and organisations to deliver lasting life-saving programmes.
- *They are amongst the 1st on ground level to respond to emergencies such as natural disasters and where people are displaced, to bring emergency relief and long term support.
- *They help people set up their own businesses, create opportunities, adapt to climate change, to give people control over their own finances.
- *They help people have a greater say in their society to secure access to health care, education and water.
- *They work with people and global organisations to speak out against injustice.
Christian Aid stands with people to build a world where dignity, equality and justice are experienced by everyone. We try to make a difference and stand with them to make their lives better.
Christian Aid Week 2021
Because of Coronavirus and the continuing risk we will not be undertaking delivery and collection of Christian Aid Week envelopes this May, similar to 2020. The level of giving last year fell considerably, compared to previous years, however the work and need to support never changes.
We here in the UK are all being affected by Coronavirus, but for those already living in challenging situations associated with poverty and climate change they continue to remain at the highest level of risk. Your gift could help a community build an earth dam, so when the rains do come, they will have the water they need to live. People are caught in a cycle of climate chaos. From severe drought to flooding, extreme weather robs people of what they need to survive: a reliable source of water which would allow them to grow fresh vegetables to eat.
Relief is at hand for us here in Bramhall and Woodford as the Vaccine programme rolls out, but for those in the most desperate of locations and situations there is no light at the end of the tunnel, they haven’t yet got a vaccine rollout to look forward to, nor are they seeing action on climate change. Let’s help……
We are asking you to consider making a donation to Christian Aid in a different way during the 10 to 16 May of Christian Aid Week:
