Christian Aid Week
5 May 2022Many of you will know that for one week every May, volunteers from local churches have in the past delivered red Christian Aid envelopes to your doorstep in Bramhall and Woodford….and then return to collect them at the end of the week. Due to Coronavirus in 2020 and 2021 we didn’t undertake local collections and therefore the level of donations made direct to Christian Aid was lower by comparison. This year we will not be doing a house to house collection.
Our appeal last year, which you supported, generated over £3000 here in Bramhall and Woodford. Given the humanitarian effort of all charities at present we are asking for your help. Let us make sure that we can assist those in plight of War, famine or oppression. Please be generous again this year.
What is Christian Aid?
Christian Aid is a part of the Disasters and Emergency Committee. CA is the official relief and development agency of 41 Christian churches in the UK and Ireland, and works to support sustainable development, eradicate poverty, support civil society and provide disaster relief in South America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Christian Aid works with poor and vulnerable communities of all faiths or none, in over 30 countries through nearly 500 local partners and organisations to deliver lasting life-saving programmes. When emergencies strike in these countries, we are there before, during and after to save lives and support people in the long term.
-
- We are amongst the 1st on ground level to respond to emergencies such as natural disasters and where people are displaced, to bring emergency relief and long term support.
- We help people set up their own businesses, create opportunities, adapt to climate change, to give people control over their own finances.
- We help people have a greater say in their society to secure access to health care, education and water.
- We work with people and global organisations to speak out against injustice.
Christian Aid stands with people to build a world where dignity, equality and justice are experienced by everyone. We try to make a difference and stand with them to make their lives better, whether that is in Europe or further afield.
We also work in other countries and regions through the ACT Alliance and our other partners, particularly around humanitarian emergencies such as the refugee crisis.
Our Mission in Ukraine
In the Ukraine we are working hand in hand with partner organisations to assist those in need.
We’re working with 2 partner associations in the ACT Alliance (a global faith-based coalition) to offer assistance to Ukrainian refugees fleeing deadly violence. We are distributing food supplies and lifesaving essentials to the Ukrainian borders.
Christian Aid Week 2022
We will no longer be undertaking delivery and collection of Christian Aid Week envelopes in Bramhall and Woodford, we will collect in churches but are asking you if you do not attend a church to support us by donating via the Christian Aid website.
All in the UK continue to be affected by Coronavirus, but for those already living in challenging situations associated with poverty and climate change they continue to remain at the highest level of risk, and even more so because of the ongoing spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Whilst we have benefited from the opportunity for triple jabs, in many parts of the world it is only natural immunity that saves them from the horror of untimely death.
We are asking you to consider making a donation to Christian Aid in a different way during the 15th to 21st May of Christian Aid Week:
If you would prefer to donate then you can do so on-line by debit/credit card or PayPal at these links:
