Duncan McCoombe – Manchester 10k
13 May 2014On Sunday 18th May Bramhall’s own Duncan McCombe will once again be taking on the Manchester 10k raising money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. But this time with a little bit of a twist!
Duncan was treated for a brain tumour at the hospitals old site in September 2007 when he was just 12 years old. He spent 3 months in the hospital, undergoing 3 operations, and subsequently missed 3 months of school. Since then Duncan has made a full recovery and is devoted to giving back to the hospital.
Duncan and his family have raised lots of money in the past through running the Manchester 10k, doing the Manchester Cycle and also the Manchester Swim in Salford Quays. But this year he wanted to do more.
“It’s hard constantly asking people to donate to the hospital, we all have our own charities we support and don’t get to see the great work that goes on in others” he said “Therefore this year I had to do something more, something that would earn donations.
This year I am running the 10k with Humphrey Bear, the hospitals mascot. I have been out with him a few times and it certainly is a challenge! Getting to the end of the road was hard enough so running 10k is going to be real challenge for me.”
If you want a chance to meet Humphrey then he will be at Bramhall Park Run on Saturday 17th May collecting for the hospital. He will be starting the race and get some last minute preparation before the big day. So come and see him, 9:00 am, Bramhall Park on Saturday.
Duncan has a Just Giving page which talks more about his cause and is the central location for his fundraising so please follow the link and take a look. https://t.co/dOwHvwnFQ1
