Eds Hair: The Pride of Bramhall
3 Sep 2019Last weekend, history was made when Eds Hair brought Pride to Bramhall.
To commemorate their fourth anniversary, and to celebrate Pride, Eds Hair put on a party to remember at Tre Ciccio, attended by Brazilian dancers, friends, family and a host of celebrity guests. It was all in the name of charity, too – the event raised more than £1,200 towards community causes.
Wendy Green from I Love Bramhall was delighted to attend Eds’ special celebration; guests were treated to bubbles on arrival, canapes throughout the evening and delicious chocolate, handed out by the Naked Chocolatier (who was a real a feast for the eyes!). The event marked four years in Bramhall for Ed and Mike, who are also celebrating their own anniversary this week – congratulations on 13 years together!
The four-year anniversary fell shortly after Manchester Pride, and Eds decided to create a mini Pride right here in Bramhall. Co-owner Ed Mascarenhas commented: “Bramhall is a diverse place – we can all be ourselves here. We found love in Bramhall and we celebrate this today with our Pride party – let this be a tradition in Bramhall from now on!”

Co-owner Mike Messenger, Ed and the rest of the team were joined by friends and businesses from the Bramhall community, including councillor Linda Weekes-Holt, Modiste, Guinot Bramhall, Your Support Team, Dzinr, Keller Kitchens and more, as well some famous faces: Hollyoaks’ star Kieron Richardson put in an appearance, as did Chris Clark of Towie fame and his brother Jon, who both travelled up from Essex for the party.

Jon, who has appeared on Towie and Love Island, commented:
“Ed is very creative, very flamboyant and a great barber as well as women’s hairdresser. He always makes me feel comfortable when I come to see him for a haircut. I love him – he’s a great guy!”
The knees-up had Bramhall buzzing for hours but there was a serious side to the festivities – a commitment to raising funds for charity. Proceeds from the evening are being donated to the Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club, which supports good causes in the community and further afield.
Mike said:
“Since we set up in Bramhall, we’ve been supported by the community and invited to participate in so many events organised by the Rotary Club. Tonight’s party is our way of giving back to the community. We’ve raised £770 in ticket sales and will be donating the proceeds of the raffle, towards which more than £2,000 worth of prizes were kindly donated by local businesses and organisations.”
Since it was established in 1986, Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club has donated more than £500,000 to charitable causes – one of which is suicide prevention charity Papyrus. For the past few years, the organisation has supported the family of local teenager Lee Ridgeway, who tragically died at Bramhall Train Station in 2016. Eds were struck by the poignancy of Lee’s story and proceeds from the Pride party will go towards raising suicide awareness through charity Papyrus.
Lee’s mother Thelma spoke on the night, just days after the third anniversary of her son’s passing, paying tribute to the “amazing support” the Rotary Club has given their family, and others who have lost loved ones to suicide.
“Suicide is the biggest killer of under 35s, especially men. Lee had everything to live for – our family has been devastated by his death. Papyrus have supported us since Lee’s death and we’re raising awareness of youth suicide with the vital help of the Rotary Club. We must tackle young suicide together, as a community, to save lives.”
More than £1,000 was raised by Eds Hair on the night in what can only be described as an astounding gesture and a wonderful way to celebrate four years as Bramhall’s best-loved Brazilian hairdresser. Here’s to the next four!
