Home of the Headlander Festival, Stockport RUFC

27 Jan 2014

With 15 Acres, fantastic facilities and even a superb children’s play centre “Wild Things”, Stockport RUFC also plays host to the Headlander Festival on 21st and 22nd June 2014.

As well as an excellent venue for watching and playing rugby, Stockport RUFC offers a broad range of facilities to our community in Bramhall.  With a warm, welcoming atmosphere, we were treated to a match day where we met members of the team, enjoyed a sit down meal, braved the elements and shared stories of Bramhall past and present.

The club has matches every Saturday in the season where families can go and support the club and watch a currently unbeaten team at home – Under 16’s are free and it is £5 for adults and £3 for senior citizens. There is a lovely friendly atmosphere after the games where both players and spectators can enjoy the club hospitality.

On Sundays there are Mini and Junior’s sessions from Under 6’s right through to Under 17’s (times etc can be found at www.stockportrugby.co.uk).

Stockport RUFC is also a fully inclusive Rugby Club and gives many youngsters with mobility problems and severe learning difficulties the opportunity to take part in a mainstream sport.  Stockport All Starts Special Tag Rugby Squad  has been in existing for  over 6 years and has a regular attendance of about 15-20 members each week.

We chatted with our very welcoming host, Mike Drew, Director of Rugby about the club and the upcoming Headlander Event in June.  Mike has been at the club for 42 years! He began his life as a former semi-pro footballer who ended up moving over to rugby after playing squash at the club.  He loves rugby and describes it as “such a sociable game – particularly afterwards!”

As well as the regular matches and ongoing events at the club they are hosting the Headlander Festival on 21st and 22nd June 2014.  There will be 4 stages, 50 acts, 30 hours of music, on-site camping, free parking, a skate park, family fun days and food festival and it looks set to be the best music festivals around.

So why not book your birthday or celebration? As well as fully catered for Children’s parties at their dedicated play centre “Wild Things” The Club House is a great venue for all types of events – They cater for a sit-down meals for 80 people, up to 150 for parties and celebrations.  There is a roof terrace, full bar, bespoke menu, snacks and refreshments.
