I Love Bramhall’s Big Free Tea Party

16 Jun 2015

Community spirit was once again overflowing in Bramhall last Friday as Wendy Green, founder of I Love Bramhall and Vice Chair of Bramhall Together Trust organised for the second year running a Free Big Tea Party for Bramhall’s senior citizens with help from local individuals, businesses and community groups.

Hours before the opening helpers had erected marquees, baked cakes, scones and other treats and given up their time to make the day exceptional. Guests were welcomed into St. Michael’s Church hall and gardens which were beautifully decorated with bunting and fresh flowers. Everyone enjoyed a glass of Pimms, and then tucked into a scrumptious afternoon tea whilst being entertained by the year 10 Bramhall High students, Alan Burton, the Baptist Church and Absolute DJ’s.

A special thank you has to go to Bramhall High School as the students not only entertained the guests with their band but also waited on them; serving tea and cakes for hours on a very hot day!

The event was sponsored by Amaranth, Hearing Clearly and Optique Opticians there were plenty of other delights too from local businesses giving free treatments; manicures by Loved, hand massages by Amaranth, gentleman’s grooming by Alexander’s of Bramhall, and mini makeovers by House of Colour, hearing screening from Hearing Clearly and feet measuring & assessment from Ease the Feet.

Zumba Bramhall surprised the guests with a flash mob. The enthusiastic group surprised everyone with an unexpected Reggeaton dance, it was both emotional and entertaining when the guests started joining in.

Our local politicians supported the event too, including The Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport, Councillor Andrew Verdeille and Mrs Cleo Cundall and newly elected MP Mary Robinson.

We even had the TV Channel That’s Manchester there for the whole afternoon filming the event. Watch the film here

Wendy Green, said: “It was an afternoon of happiness, we had over 240 senior citizens enjoying food, entertainment and free treatments and everything was donated by local people, it was a wonderful way to bring people together, giving the Tea Party a very special community feel to it which was a great start to the weekend of Bramhall Festival”

A special thank you to Sarah Bell and Paul Arrowsmith for spending the afternoon with us and capturing the event beautifully through their photography.

We received some much appreciated thank you’s : Frances Smith wrote

“I have so enjoyed my Afternoon Tea Party in Bramhall. It was so good last year that I was a little, what shall I say – preoccupied that it would be hard to match this year. Well, I needn’t have been concerned: it was cracking. Once again the pupils of Bramhall High School comported themselves splendidly and did themselves, parents and school proud; the music was ‘the gear’, as we Elderlies used to say back in our day; the food was scrumptious and beautifully presented.

I had my hands massaged, my nails manicured, my make-up mini made-over and my feet assessed. What’s not to love? We didn’t even have to bring our own sunshine with us this year!

While I do get much pleasure and satisfaction from help I hope I give others, it was so very nice to be on the receiving end. As last year, I accepted with both hands the ‘thank you from Bramhall Business Community’ for helping the people who may be their Even More Elderly Family.
A resounding success: very well done.
Warm Regards
Fran”
