I LOVE Butcher & Barlow Solicitors

31 Jul 2018

When it comes to doing business, the longevity of a company is often testament to its success – solicitors Butcher & Barlow has a 130-year history and has been local to Bramhall for more than a decade.

Established in Bramhall in 2007 following a merger with Taylor, Kirkman and Mainprice, Butcher & Barlow was originally set up in Bury over 130 years ago.  Highly respected and known for its friendly approach, the firm of solicitors has passed from father to son through four generations. Presently, the Senior Partner is Charles Barlow – great-grandson of one of the founders, John Woodward Barlow who opened an office in Bury with Samuel Foster Butcher in 1887.

Over the years since the firm was established, Butcher & Barlow has evolved and grown but retained its longstanding reputation throughout the North for quality of service. With ten offices spread throughout North Manchester and Cheshire, Butcher & Barlow prides itself on being a law firm with local connections but the size to provide an approachable expert in every field.

The business offers a full range of legal services, from residential property and family law matters to commercial disputes and share sales. Within the Bramhall office there are five solicitors: Justin Kelly, a Partner in the firm, is an expert in employment, corporate and commercial law. Justin, who has been with Butcher & Barlow for almost 20 years, is one of the few Notary Publics in the area able to certify foreign documents for use in any legal jurisdiction in the world.

Robert Morris, also a Partner, specialises in private client and property law.  Robert has strong ties to the local community, having lived in Bramhall for over 25 years.  He’s a keen tennis player and an active member of Bramhall Lane Lawn Tennis Club. Rachel Martin – a commercial property specialist with almost 20 years’ experience within both the private and public sector – recently joined Butcher & Barlow from another firm and lives locally in Bramhall.

Matthew Watson, who joined the company in 2015, specialises in residential property matter and is also able to assist clients with wills, probate, powers of attorney and Court of Protection matters. Charlotte Toothill, meanwhile, is a family law specialist. She covers all areas of family law including divorce and is a specialist in childcare law. She too has been with the firm since 2015. The solicitors are supported by a trainee solicitor and a secretarial support team of five.

With more than 160 staff across its ten offices, Butcher & Barlow are big enough to cope with the requirements of all manner of clients across a broad range of services – but small enough not to forget that a personal touch and attention to detail is what sets the firm apart from others. They are the big firm on your doorstep. They are your solicitors for life.
