I LOVE Family Care Solutions

29 Nov 2017

We met with  Ian and Lynda Dunlop who are the founders of Family Care Solutions to discuss why domiciliary care is on the up and how they accommodate to the varying care needs in their business.

With many people falling ill or facing situations that they never thought they would be in, more and more people are requiring some form of assistance and above all a little TLC.

Family Care Solutions

Launched in January 2012, Ian and Lynda combined their experience in finance and social work to create Family Care Solutions in Woodford.  As it is a family run business with their daughters Jemma and Nadine and their office c0-ordinator Jo working alongside them, their commitment and unity makes for one caring bunch, treating their service users as extended family members.

Family Care Solutions

After starting out on their own, they have now employed 29 members of staff, including 3 males carers, so they are always on hand for a service user’s needs.  All of their carers undertake DBS  background checks, ensuring all staff are fit to work with vulnerable people. Their carers are all provided with ongoing training and receive regular supervision and appraisal. In addition, if an employee has relevant experience but lacks a qualification, they ensure that they are put forward to a relevant course in order to obtain their social care certificate. Emphasising their philosophy of ensuring that all their staff are trained and equipped to provide good, well-informed care that meets their service user’s needs in the most appropriate way.

Family Care Solutions

When you think of those needing extra care, immediately, the mind wanders to old age. However, Ian and Lynda provide care packages for all ages and needs, including mental health, disabilities and terminally ill patients. Whatever the level of need, FCS offer services from 30 minutes to sometimes 4 or 5 calls a day.  Senior staff are contactable on the phone from 7am-10pm so that carers are always able to speak to them when they need help or advice.

Family Care Solutions

FCS not only provide a comprehensive service in the home but do social calls including shopping trips, appointments etc. Service users are supported to access their community and carers are more than happy to accompany service users to local groups, singing clubs etc which they want to attend.  After speaking with them, it is clear that FCS has developed strong bonds with their service users, one, in particular, struck a chord as they were the sole carers for a Dementia patient, who had no family who lived locally were able to provide day to day support. His care was provided consistently by his carers who facilitated everything possible to meet his holistic needs.

From one family business to another, the Dunlop’s thoroughly enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade cake in Plumcake and when wanting to dine out in Bramhall they enjoy both Romulus and Turquoise.

Ian and Lynda own a holiday home in the beautiful town of Kalkan in Turkey. They try to spend as much time there as they can. They have a number of Turkish friends and enjoy experiencing the different culture and are learning the language. However, whilst relaxing on their holidays their kindness and compassion transcends as they aid KAPSA (Kalkan Association for the Protection of Street Animals), aiming to help all the abandoned strays that wander the Turkish streets and give them a second chance in life. Ian and Lynda also have 2 dogs of their own at home and they are animal lovers! They also have a caravan in the town of Llybrenig (North Wales) where they visit when they get the opportunity to enjoy the peace and serenity of the Welsh countryside.

Family Care Solutions

Although both Ian and Lynda did not originate in Bramhall, coming here over 30 years ago, they have met lots of lovely people, always felt welcome and have loved being part of the close-knit community. Now they say they can’t imagine being anywhere else…
