I LOVE IBY (Inspired By You) Construction
22 Mar 2017“Construction in Norway has always been characterized by the need to shelter people, animals, and property from harsh weather, including predictably cold winters and frost, heavy precipitation in certain areas, wind and storms; and to make the most of scarce building resources.” *
Meet Matt Flinn of IBY Construction. No, he is not Scandinavian, he is British and from South Manchester. Matt has nearly twenty years’ experience in the construction industry of which he worked and studied for five years in Norway. Prior to going to Norway, he ran his construction business locally for five years. He closed this business to go to Norway. Out of this life experience he renewed his love of the architecture and timber framed structures of Scandinavia. He started and successfully ran a construction business in Norway for five years before returning to the UK.
Upon his return to the UK he knew that there was a market for these substantial timber framed structures. He wanted to start a new business to reintroduce his well-honed skill of such structures and Scandinavian style. He started with a focus of creating extra space wood structures within an existing property. The advantage to creating an extra space it is done without moving and avoiding those messy and time consuming traditional extensions. There is normally only a 2-3 month lead time. Any kind of timber structure can be finished up to house specification and building regulations. They offer structures such as:
- Guest houses
- Granny Annexes (so your loved ones can live closer to home)
- Timber Framed houses
- Summer houses
- Garden offices
- Log cabins (high spec, built like small houses)
- Music studios
- Clubs
- Pubs/Bars
With three years under their belt with IBY they are taking the business to a new level and start their first complete home build in April, 2017. This bespoke home will be a pre-fabricated timber structure built offsite in Germany to the client’s specification and vision. The quality is of a better standard because of the material and techniques that they use. IBY has a contract with an oak wood supplier in Germany that allows them very competitive prices. All their other suppliers are locally sourced as they prefer to use and support local small businesses.
With a team of eight employees they can build a timber framed home in eight weeks from the start of the actual construction to completion. This compared to the average nine months of a brick and mortar build.
IBY’s objective is to build five bespoke homes in 2017 whilst continuing to offer their other services as well. They would like to double these objectives in 2018. I have no doubt that this is obtainable. People need to be exposed to the quality and uniqueness of their work. Please do take a look at their product on their website and Facebook pages. If you are looking to create more space or build your dream home in the near future I am sure that Matt and his team would be happy to help you build your dream that is ‘Inspired by You’ (IBY).
