I Love Marjoe’s Coffee Shop

7 Mar 2019

A bright, airy cafe serving up great cups of coffee and so much more in the heart of Bramhall, Marjoe’s is a fantastic option for a drink, slice of cake or a light lunch. I Love Bramhall met up with owner Lawrence Turner to find out more about the ‘leaves, beans and company’ that fuel this independent coffee shop.

Marjoe’s was inspired by two things: a love of good coffee and a desire to connect with people and the community. Consistently learning from the people of Bramhall what they’d like to see from the coffee shop, Marjoe’s has cultivated a strong and well-deserved following.

Behind every great business is a great story, and Marjoe’s is no exception. Working as a civil servant in London, Lawrence always looked forward to unwinding come Saturday at quirky independent coffee shops. One day, he realised he’d love to open his own cafe, and set about laying the foundations for the Marjoes we know and love.

He found the best coffee in London at a kiosk opposite the Houses of Parliament and asked the barista his secret. What seemed like a simple conversation rapidly grew into something bigger and fortunately for us Bramhall residents, the two teamed up, moved up north and established Marjoe’s some 14 months ago.

Being based in Bramhall means that Marjoe’s is able to utilise the wonderful farms, butchers and bakers in the area for the fresh ingredients that go into their food and drinks. Supporting all things local and independent is important to the team, so everything is sourced from within a five-mile radius.

The community atmosphere of Bramhall is alive and well in Marjoe’s, and customers of all ages and all walks of life frequent the coffee shop for tasty coffee, snacks and friendly conversation. Marjoe’s is open seven days a week, and located conveniently whether you’re wandering down from the train station, or planning to pick up a coffee to go when you’re driving past.

Their slogan ‘leaves, beans and company’ refers not just to their lovely tea and coffee, but the friendly, sociable company Marjoes’ customers enjoy. Along these lines, there’s a book exchange where you can leave a book for another customer to enjoy, and swap it for a new one.

Marjoe’s warmly welcomes every customer, and their clever use of space makes the coffee shop accessible and spacious for pushchairs, too, so it’s a lovely place to bring little ones. The staff get to know the customers and what they like, so it’s no wonder around 70% of their clients are regulars.

There’s no run-of-the-mill coffee at Marjoe’s– the team spent four months crafting their very own unique blend, which you can enjoy in the cafe or buy in ground and bagged form to bring home. Their loose tea leaves are also available to bring home with you, and refills are offered at a discounted price when you run out, which is great for the environment, too!

It’s not just coffee, either – Marjoe’s has a seasonal menu of sandwiches, bagels, soups, jacket potatoes and more, which changes every few weeks. There are plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, or those with intolerances, as well as a kids menu.

The warmer weather we’re seeing means there’s no better place than Marjoe’s to enjoy an iced tea or coffee or one of their ice cream milkshakes while relaxing in their clean, colourful sun trap of a cafe.
