I LOVE Mercato Italiano
30 Sep 2016Since opening in May 2016, Mercato Italiano has become the place to be in Bramhall’s vibrant foodie culture and nightlife scene.
Successfully delivering both restaurant and bar atmospheres side by side, this contemporary Sardinian-inspired venue perfectly balances a flavoursome menu of Assaggini (Italian Tapas), with fine Italian wines and a great selection of beers and spirits from the 5-metre long bar. All set under a huge retractable roof, Mercato can create different dining experiences, whatever the weather; al fresco for when the British sun makes a cameo appearance, or mood-lit taverna, for when it doesn’t!
With a knack of making you feel special, whether you’re spending hours in the weekend nightlife or simply popping in for a weekday lunch, the passion for great food and drink shared by Giovanni, Salvatore and the team is evident. The iLoveBramhall team chose to visit for lunch and the experience did not disappoint.
We sat down with the gorgeous Fiona, administrator for the restaurant, who introduced us to their freshly prepared and beautifully presented Assaggini; a Sardinian way of eating, made up of small plates.
Fiona told us:
“The beauty of this style of dining is that it does not leave you feeling bloated; a casual, laid back and sociable eating experience that’s clearly very popular in Bramhall, if the number of people we entertain is anything to go by!”
Responsible for the creation of this unique menu is head chef Claudio and menu consultant Tina. Before joining the team at Mercato, Claudio was head chef of a Michelin-Starred restaurant in Sardinia, whilst Tina came to the UK from Italy as personal chef to Roberto Mancini (and all of the football team), whilst he was manager at Manchester City.
Together, they ensure all of the food at Mercato Italiano packs huge flavour, whilst remaining light and healthy; good news for those diners averse to gluten, butter and cream! Choose from a 30-strong variety of meats, fish, seafood and salads, or breads, pizzas and pastas, with vegetarian options. Remember to leave room for a sublime dessert, barista-quality coffee or something a little more cheeky to round off that perfect meal.
All dishes are cooked fresh, from organic, quality ingredients. This means certain items on the menu also change dependent on the season, so even regular patrons get to experience new dishes and specials on different visits. Keep an eye out for this year’s Winter menu, starting from October.
Quenching your thirst, the well-stocked bar boasts around 50 fine wines, 9 draught beers and an eclectic collection of hand-picked spirits, with happy hour from 5-7pm every weekday. The venue livens still further to the sound of live music every Sunday from Mercato’s own pianist, Andrea. What’s not to LOVE?
