I Love Notcutts Garden Centre

9 Oct 2018

A fun day out for all the family is just around the corner at the newly refurbished Notcutts Garden Centre, which has just celebrated the grand opening of its beautiful show garden and new restaurant with a fantastic relaunch event attended by Caroline Notcutt herself.

The I Love Bramhall team was delighted to be invited to the relaunch, along with deputy mayor of Stockport Wendy Meikle, MP Mary Robinson, local councillors John McGahan, Mike Hurleston and Alanna Vine, Bramhall High head Lynn Fox and the Rotary Club’s Maggie and Harry Hill.

Caroline Notcutt officially opens the Notcutts Woodford Park show garden alongside Mary Robinson MP, Wendy Meikle, Deputy mayor of Stockport, centre manager Rob Marshall, CEO Nick Burrows and shareholders, designers, staff and special guests.

Having acquired the centre on Chester Road around a decade ago, Notcutts has created an attraction for visitors of all ages. I Love Bramhall spoke to general manager Rob Marshall to find out more about the garden centre’s transformation.

For anyone who hasn’t yet visited Notcutts’ Woodford Park Garden Centre, prepare to be wowed. Pass the beautiful fountains just outside the entrance and step inside the wonderfully modern main building, which is light, airy and attractively laid out. There really is so much to see, from all manner of outdoor furniture and a wide array of plants to homewares, gifts and even fresh produce.

The vast garden centre’s interior is separated into sections, each of which is accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. Handily at the entrance there’s a map – also dotted elsewhere throughout the building – so you can easily find your way around or pick out any areas of particular interest. Along with the main shop floor, Notcutts’ Woodford has a coffee shop, restaurant, farm shop and pets area, while outdoors there are historic lakes and ponds with Koi carp – as well as fountains – all surrounded by footpaths.

In fact, Notcutts has only just unveiled its brand new restaurant area, which is stylish, fully accessible and the perfect place to enjoy a delicious bite to eat between browsing. It’s this commitment to investment that keeps Woodford Park up to the minute and ensures that the centre caters for all.

Overseeing the goings-on at the garden centre for the last few years, general manager Rob Marshall heads up a team of over 100 staff members, who ensure that all areas of the garden centre run efficiently. From the chefs in the restaurant to the horticulturists in the outdoor area, everyone has a part to play in the smooth running of the garden centre. Rob is rightly proud of the team’s dedication and capability – some members of staff have more than 30 years’ horticultural experience, so they really are experts on all gardening related matters.

Notcutts’ Woodford Parkcentre ticks all the boxes when it comes to an enjoyable day out, so much so that many older customers who once visited as children now bring their own grandchildren along! There are tons of toys to browse, rabbits and guinea pigs to cuddle and a great kids’ menu in the restaurant. At Christmastime, the centre comes alive with magic as hundreds of youngsters stop by to watch Santa arrive on the Christmas Express train. Father Christmas will return this year on November 18th, so put the date in your diary!

Aside from the goodies for the centre’s youngest visitors, there are plenty of plants, both native and foreign, for home and garden. Many of the plants on offer are sourced from local bedding nurseries – the poinsettia stocked at Christmas, for example, are grown locally over at Joddrell Bank. In addition to the plantlife, however, keen gardeners are well catered for with seeds, tools, chemicals and more, but there’s also plenty on offer to satisfy visitors looking for homewares, cards, books, gifts, fresh bakery products and all manner of delicious treats.
