I Love Romulus Bramhall
31 May 2018Clocking up a solid 22 years right at the beating heart of Bramhall’s restaurant scene, Romulus Bramhall has become something of a household name for the village’s residents.
I Love Bramhall met up with owner Salvatore Fattoruso to talk pizza, pasta and how this Italian restaurant has withstood the test of time.
About Romulus
Food, wine and friendship are described as a way of life at Romulus Bramhall, and in entering the restaurant visitors are immediately transported from the grey skies of Stockport to a lively restaurant on a side street in Rome. The exposed brick walls are adorned with paintings of Italian countryside scenes and a Romanesque statue leans against a column in the centre of the room. Surrounded by this cosy yet sophisticated atmosphere, it’s easy to imagine the decades of meals enjoyed around the tables, fuelled by laughter and good food.
Salvatore – originally from the south coast of Italy – and his Wilmslow-born wife Michelle were drawn to Bramhall by the friendliness of its residents and the vibrancy of the village. Salvatore’s appreciation of the true Italian dining experience is reflected in the restaurant’s menu, which is firmly rooted in Italian traditions and culture.
The Food
The food is described as ‘cucina rustica’ with authentic Italian taste being a priority. In-keeping with the ‘just like mama used to make’ meals, the staff themselves greet guests like longstanding friends – attentively and with a smile. Behind the scenes in the kitchen, the chef prepares classic dish after classic dish – and has done for more than a decade. Many of the staff have worked at Romulus for years; treating workers fairly and with respect is just as important as ensuring customers are happy and well cared for, Salvatore says.
While the restaurant is a firm favourite among families, couples and Premier League footballers alike, each and every guest receives the same warm welcome, with staff referring to visitors by name and ensuring good communication is maintained so that every need is met. Children are very welcome in the restaurant, too, with high chairs available and a children’s menu that has plenty of options for little ones.
If you’ve tried what’s on the set menu at Romulus you’ll know that every dish is delicious but the barbeque spare ribs and 8oz fillet steaks are said to be especially popular. For visitors who prefer the less meaty options, the warm avocado with salmon starter and the penne with smoked salmon are also raved about by customers.
The menu caters for a wide variety of appetites and includes gluten-free and vegetarian options, although customers can always ask a member of the team for tweaks to the menu to accommodate their dietary requirements. Every dish is freshly homemade and only the best ingredients are selected, including both Italian produce and local meat and vegetables.
Romulus Drinks & Specials
Specials – listed on blackboards dotted around the room – draw attention to delectable dishes and an ever-changing collection of wines. There’s also an early bird menu for guests ordering before 6.30pm which offers a starter, main course and coffee for just £12.95 and a selection of lunch dishes for only £6.50. These offers are available throughout the week with the exception of Monday and Sunday lunchtimes, so those working weekdays can still enjoy a hearty yet affordable lunch or early dinner at the weekend. The restaurant also opens on bank holidays and is a great spot for getting together with friends or family after a shopping trip in the village.
Romulus stands out from the crowd thanks to its preservation of Italian tradition. Guests can enjoy the real ‘taste of Italy’ that the restaurant is proud to serve up. The freshly-made pizzas are also available to take away, so you can enjoy the finest Italian cuisine outside Italy from the comfort of your own home. So whether you’re after a midweek lunch with your partner, a celebratory dinner or just a pizza to kick back with in front of your TV, Romulus is the place to go.
