I LOVE Sandwich Heaven

13 Mar 2017

Six years on and going from strength to strength, Sandwich Heaven of Bramhall on Fir Road rarely sees any down time of a constant stream of customers.  This location that was once a petrol station, once a bic-a-brac shop and a florist before it became Ian Ratcliffe’s quality food, customer service focused sandwich shop.

Ian opened this shop with years of career experience to provide him with the tools to run his two successful sandwich shops. He also has a Sandwich Heaven in Hazel Grove on Dorchester Parade that opened three years ago.  Ian has been involved in catering one way or another for most of his working career as well as venturing down other paths along the way.  He has experience in the health care industry, owned a hotel in Blackpool, as well as being General Manager in a British pub called ‘The Frog and the Onion’ in sunny Bermuda for six and a half years.  It was from here that Ian returned to the UK and eventually opened his first Sandwich Heaven.

When sitting down with Ian to explore the success of his business he claimed not much has changed over the past year.  After gently scratching the surface I think even Ian was surprised at the growth and positive direction his business is moving.  Where should I begin?  For one thing, his corporate catering business is growing.  In addition to his existing client list he has added companies such as Hilti and British Aero Space into the fold.  He provides his clients with quality bespoke menus catering to the dietary needs of the recipients that he delivers right to their door.  He also provides catering for private events as well.

Ian opens his doors on Fir Road at 7:30 – 3:00 Monday through Friday, Saturday 9:00 – 3:00 and Sunday 10:00 – 2:00.  You can start your day with a full English breakfast and leave with a take away for your lunch.  Why not add a cake for an afternoon snack while you are at it?

Ian is expanding his menu to provide more gluten free, nut free, vegan and vegetarian options.  He has new paninis coming out but from his current menu the biggest sellers are the New York panini (ham, bacon, pepperoni, swiss cheese with BBQ sauce) and the American panini (meatball and mozzarella cheese).  Yummy and substantial enough to fuel anyone for the day.  Of course, there are options of homemade soups and salads for those looking for lighter options.  Then there are the cakes!  Ian has a new supplier, Hopwells out of Yorkshire.  They are a handmade cake company that are temptingly placed on the top shelf.  Perfect for an afternoon treat with a tea or coffee.

Ian takes great pride in his brand.  He insists that things are run consistently between the two shops.  He is a bit of a perfectionist and his attention to detail, quality locally sourced ingredients, and customer service are what drive his business.  As a result, his business is growing and he will be looking to expand to a third shop. Watch this space!

Although Ian is dedicated to his business and works many hours he does manage to have a personal life with his partner of seven plus years, George McLachlan and their two dogs.  The biggest event of the year for him in 2017 is his wedding to George on the 7th of October at Bramall Hall.  We wish them all the best.  I am sure it will be a grand celebration.

If you haven’t tried Sandwich Heaven give it a go.  Parking is easy and location is conveniently located.  Don’t let any queue discourage you.  They are well organized and you will be quickly served in the friendly manner that will make you feel very welcomed.  I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
