9 May 2016

The second phase of Public Market’s renovations are well underway and with it comes a whole host of developments. Most notably a new name on completion the site will be known as ‘Mercato Italiano’ meaning Italian Market. The name change reflects the restaurants commitment to market fresh, traditional Italian street food.

With the newly extended kitchen and new Sardinian Head Chef Claudio Asuni, Mercato Italiano will be offering a broader menu from tasty deli and small plate items such as steamed mussels and ‘fritto misto’ to flavoursome cold cuts of prosciutto, bresaola and salami.

The signature pizzas will remain as will the breakfast offering with welcome additions such as pancetta & baked eggs, calzone, risotto and even more pasta dishes. Guests will be able to choose from a wide selection of meats from the ‘butcher counter’ such as T-Bone and Fillet steaks plus seafood including King prawns, Seabass and Monkfish all cooked using the Valoriani wood-fired oven.

The new menu developed by nutritionist Fortunata Rossano and Head chef Claudio promises to cater to all palates, dietary requirements and will also offer a wide range of healthy options.

The rear of Mercato is where the biggest visual transformations can be seen with a newly built all-weather terrace which will be home to the long awaited 5 metre bar, sheltered from the elements by a retractable roof and heated utilising an innovative underfloor system. The larger venue, which will have 150 covers, has created 25 new positions and will be headed up by experienced General Manger Giovanni Testoni and Assistant Manager Salvatore Sechi. Giovanni says;

“I’m delighted to have joined the team at this important stage of redevelopment. Having worked in Bramhall for over 10 years I was aware of the plans for Mercato Italiano and felt this was an opportunity not to be missed. We plan to bring some truly authentic freshly prepared Italian dishes to Bramhall and will be launching regular specials and wines from all regions of Italy.”
