Nevill Road School – achievements
14 Oct 2018The new academic year has brought a busy term so far for those at Nevill Road School.
The children in Year 6 created a giant sea turtle on the school field from plastic they had collected over the Summer holiday.
This term, the children are studying into the environment, focusing on the question ‘How can we save planet earth?’ and the damages both plastic and our habits have to the environment. Following this, the children were taken on free trips to the Recycling Centre at Longley Lane to learn about what happens to our recycling after we put it in the bin – the children, staff and parents alike learnt a lot of valuable lessons!
The school plans next to write letters of encouragement to parents to further their current recycling habits.
On 25th September, representatives of Nevil Road went to the Stockport Sports’ Partnership (now known as SHAPES) Going for Gold celebration evening. The school performed outstandingly, bringing home several awards for their commitment to PE and Sport.
They also struck success in the “Go for Gold” school challenge and were overall winners. An ex-pupil also won the Young Ambassador of the year award, raking another piece of silverware under Nevil Road’s name. All those at the school are celebrating their vast achievements on the sporting field.
Nevil Road achieved yet more sporting success at the start of October when three representatives were invited to the Stockport Sport Awards. Out of the schools in Stockport, the school was one of the six shortlisted along with competition from closer to home, Pownall Green. Unexpectedly, Nevil Road came out on top and won the award. Next, the school is proud to be representing Stockport at the Manchester Sports Awards in mid-November at Lancashire Cricket Club.
