Olivers Restaurant celebrate 40 years

2 Jul 2018

Residents of Bramhall and beyond will no doubt have heard of Olivers Restaurant, opposite The Davenport Arms pub in Woodford. For those who have yet to pay a visit, the restaurant’s exciting news may just be the excuse you need to treat yourself… I Love Bramhall met up with owner James O’Neil to talk about the celebrations currently underway at the restaurant.

Olivers originally opened as a French bistro in Macclesfield in 1978, moving to Woodford 28 years ago. This year, the restaurant is celebrating a massive milestone: July marks Olivers’ 40th birthday, and the restaurant is making some exciting menu changes to ensure its birthday goes with a bang – keep reading to find out more.

Being a family-owned and independent restaurant means that despite ever-changing trends in cuisine, Olivers remains true to its heritage. The menu boasts the freshest food, made on site daily by three highly experienced chefs, and takes full advantage of nearby agriculture by sourcing ingredients locally.

Olivers Restaurant Woodford1Everything is prepared from scratch, with the only exception being their delicious ice cream, which is sourced from an environmentally-conscious Cheshire farm. And as meals are made to order, those with specific dietary requirements are well catered for and a dish can always be made gluten free or without an allergen upon request.

Decades of experience means that Olivers can offer a level of gastronomic perfection and customer service unsurpassed by your average high-street eatery. The committed team provides impeccable service – guest relations manager Nadine Harper-Bristow says:

“We aim to greet each customer like a long-lost friend with a smile and a warm welcome, ensuring everyone has the most enjoyable dining experience possible.”

The contemporary interior – with countryside views from the windows – provides a wonderful backdrop for the food to take centre stage. Exposed brick walls and atmospheric lighting allude to a romantic candlelit dinner, and the fixed menus offer plenty of delicious yet affordable options for couples to enjoy – early birds can devour two courses and a glass of wine for less than £16 on the early evening fixed menu.

Of course, Olivers caters for a broad clientele, not just couples; the restaurant’s Sunday menu is particularly popular with families. I Love Bramhall especially recommends the roast beef with all the trimmings! The restaurant’s array of bespoke dishes draw influences from international cuisine, particularly French, with the succulent steak ‘’au poivre’’ being a firm favourite with customers.

The fixed menus showcase unrivalled value for money for the quality of food on offer. Customers can choose from a mouthwatering selection of starters, main courses and desserts from the main menu, or pop in after midday and pick a main course from the express lunch menu, washed down with a glass of house wine, soft drink or half a draught lager.

For those with a sweet tooth, botanical delights such as the elderflower panna cotta with watermelon, mint and honeycomb are perfect for a summer’s evening. Alternatively, the ‘Blue Monday’ Yorkshire cheese from Olivers’ artisan cheese board (created by none other than Blur’s Alex James and named after the song by New Order, of course) will have any cheese-lover singing.

In honour of their anniversary, Olivers is revisiting several dishes from their original 40-year-old menu, capturing the tastes of the 70s but brought up to date with a modern touch. An impressive selection of wines and craft beers are on offer to complement the appetising dishes, but perhaps most exciting of all is the introduction of the restaurant’s very own anniversary gin, expertly crafted with juniper berries straight from the forests of France to mark the special event.

Gin was hailed the UK’s favourite spirit to drink in 2017 and few restaurants can lay claim to their own branded bottle. Earlier in March, Olivers’ gin even achieved the impressive award of ‘Best in Show’ at the Manchester Gin Festival, so what better reason to head down for a celebratory glass?!
