Pearl Anniversary for Thursday Club in Bramhall

15 Jul 2015

Recently the Free World celebrated Magna Carta, the Nation celebrated Waterloo and Bramhall celebrated the Pearl Anniversary of the Thursday Club at Bramhall Methodist Church!

It’s 30 years since the Bramhall Day Centre was born, to create a social hub for very senior citizens, who, through mobility difficulties or need of opportunity, lack social interchange. This evolved into the Thursday Club, but its core purpose never varied. It has always been operated by volunteers who give their time and efforts unstintingly but tell how much pleasure, friendship and fun they get from it; been entertained by countless people who give time, effort and talent very generously; and attended by the members who will tell how it is the highlight of their week.

All in all, an event worth marking. And marked it was, by the hosting of the Grand Afternoon Tea Party, attended by over a hundred past and present Volunteers, Members and Guests. Following a short ecumenical prayer and opening remarks by David Sargent, Head Honcho and Chief Coordinator, the festivities were opened by the Woodford WI Choir, regular performers there. A beautiful cake, made by volunteers was cut by Founder Volunteers. Everything was organised and provided by volunteers’ efforts.

This was succeeded by lots of chat, catching up and general genial chaos. Special mention was paid and flowers presented to Carol and David Sargent in acknowledgement of their many years of limitless giving.

A jolly good time was had.

The Thursday Club meets weekly in at Bramhall Methodist Church between 10am-2.30pm. It’s a daytime social hub for Very Senior Citizens Member paid £4.50 which includes lunch.
