Romulus celebrates their 20th birthday

Romulus in Bramhall is a proper Italian Restaurant, specialising in proper Italian food – or, as Salvatore, the owner, informs me – cucina rustica. Romulus has now been in Bramhall for twenty years. Call in and you’ll see just why Bramhall’s Romulus is so successful.

The first impression as you open the door from Woodford Road is the divine smell. It’s instantly authentically Italian. (Salvatore tells me off for this. ‘Authentic’ is overused, he says. But in this instance, it’s absolutely true). It’s difficult not to close one’s eyes and sigh at the delicious aromas! The effusive and friendly welcome follows. Being greeted as a friend instantly makes you feel at home – and that continues throughout your visit. All Salvatore’s customers are well looked-after – like old friends. That’s true whether it’s you and me, or one of his regular footballers or actors…

Back in April 1996 when Salvatore – originally from Venice – opened Romulus, Bramhall was quieter than today. There were fewer bars and restaurants, although not necessarily less competition. Indeed, Salvatore prides himself on success despite the competition. He’s also ridden out a recession. So what sets Romulus apart? It’s a number of factors, one being the dedication to customer care and personal service. Salvatore’s customers are his numero uno, and it shows. Romulus is very family-oriented and little customers are very welcome! The personal touch makes Romulus really special.

The food at Romulus is simply divine. Everything is freshly home-made with ingredients, locally-sourced or imported from Italy. The menu is strictly Italian, right down to the wine and dishes can be tweaked to suit the customer. Even the pizza bases are freshly made every day. Also important to Salvatore is that he keeps prices fair, despite high-end service and food. No wonder Romulus is so very popular! Favourite dishes include the fillet steak, which is really good value, and Italian tiramisu. However, everything on the extensive menu looks delicious!

So I Love Bramhall LOVES Romulus – what does Salvatore love about Bramhall? He loves the friendliness of the village and the fact it’s so clean and well looked-after. He also believes the cheap and easy parking is a major plus. The diversity of the local independent businesses, complemented by a few high street names really works for Salvatore, too. He loves that Bramhall has really kept its identity as a village.
