Sainsbury’s Local to be in Bramhall by April 2013

Sainsbury’s Local to be in Bramhall by April 2013. Manchester-based land and property company HIMOR have announced that terms have been agreed with Sainsbury’s Local to open a new store in Bramhall Village Square, replacing the outgoing Co-operative. Sainsbury’s are targeting opening the store in April, with fit-out works due to commence shortly.

Paul Wrigglesworth, Associate Director at HIMOR commented “HIMOR are delighted that a Sainsbury’s Local will be opening in Bramhall Village Square in April. We feel this is great news for Bramhall as a convenience store is much needed in the centre of the village. We appreciate that the centre is undergoing a transition and the uncertainty over the Co-op’s future  has not helped this. However, we are committed to investment over the long-term and have a healthy level of interest in the vacant units. Looking ahead, the marketing of these units will  clearly be helped by Sainsbury’s opening. There are some fantastic independent businesses in Bramhall and this should give them a welcome boost.

I should add there was strong interest in the unit, not just from Sainsbury’s, from other supermarkets which is testament to how Bramhall is perceived and the potential the location can offer”.

Peta Brydon, Acquisitions Manager for Sainsbury’s North West said: “The opportunity to redevelop the former Co-Operative is an exciting one for Sainsbury’s and the local community. The store would complement the mix of independent shops in Bramhall Village Square and provide local shoppers with additional choice. Sainsbury’s Locals are not full-sized supermarkets and provide a convenient location to do a basket shop, topping up their main weekly shop.”

HIMOR have also recently instructed Manchester & Cheshire Construction Ltd to undertake a refurbishment of the centre, which has now commenced. A site office is open in Unit 4 Village Square which members of the public are welcome to visit and find out more about the plans. These include a new lighting scheme, improved entrances, a re-design of the central square and redecoration throughout.

Ultimately, HIMOR hope that this investment will attract new businesses and jobs and shops in Bramhall and bring some vibrancy back to the centre of the village. We’re confident this will happen because since refurbishing the first floor offices we have signed six new businesses, five of whom were new to Bramhall. We are now virtually full and hope that the retail units will follow suit once our the refurbishment works are complete”.
