The Big Bramhall Free Tea Party 2018: Celebrating our Senior Citizens
26 Jun 2018It’s almost time for tea in Bramhall – the Big Bramhall Free Tea Party, that is. Returning for its fifth instalment on Friday July 6th, I Love Bramhall’s special get-together for the village’s senior residents promises bags more than any ordinary tea party.
Taking place at St Michael’s & All Angels Church Hall on St Michael’s Avenue, our tea party is the perfect opportunity to tuck into some tasty homemade cakes, see old friends or make some new acquaintances and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and complimentary goodies, courtesy of Bramhall’s businesses and organisations.
Every year this important community event goes from strength to strength, thanks to dozens of kind-hearted village volunteers. Local residents and businesses alike join forces to throw a terrific tea party for the older members of the community and we’re confident that 2018’s Big Bramhall Free Tea Party will be no exception.
What’s on at the Big Bramhall Free Tea Party 2018?
The Big Bramhall Free Tea Party 2018 will run from 2.00pm until 4.30pm and admission to the event is by free ticket, which can be collected from Bramcote Dental Practice – our headline event sponsor – or from Amaranth. Helping out with transport to and from the event is Sunrise of Bramhall and Borough Care Ltd, so pop along, ticket in hand, to see what we’ve got in store.
Senior residents will be given a ticket for our fabulous free raffle – prizes have been kindly donated from businesses throughout the village and include a beautiful floral arrangement and voucher from Crookilley Crafts Emporium, a pamper from Guinot Bramhall and some tempting tipples from the Mounting Stone.
We’re delighted that local café Juniper will be donating plenty of cakes, and Roger (and his wife) from Prydderch Financial Planning will be putting their home baking skills to good use, too! We’ve also got goodies from Superjam, the Baking Tray, Marjoe’s and The Damson Tree to satisfy guests with a sweet tooth, scones from Notcutts, sandwiches from Plumcake and savoury snacks from Bombay to Mumbai and Sandwich Heaven.
Let’s hope the sun shines for our special event but if not, we’ll be undercover anyway – we’re lucky to have tents and tables on loan from 4th Bramhall Scout Group, who are also helping us to set up on the day. Bramhall High School students will be giving up their time to attend to our special tea party guests as well as providing some musical entertainment, along with singer Ian Lawton, accordionist Rob Howard and Gary from Absolute DJs Ltd.
There will be complimentary haircuts on offer from Francesco Group Bramhall, hand massages, mini facial treatments from Elo Lemos sweet treats and beautiful brooches kindly donated by another of our sponsors, Jon Richard Jewellery. Local police from GMP, Cheshire Hearing Centres, Age UK, and more will be giving out free advice and safety tips and many of our local business representatives will be helping out on the day.
Photographer Gillian Walsh has kindly committed to capturing the best moments from the afternoon with her expert eye and we’re honoured to be welcoming the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport, Councillor Walter Brett and Mrs Maureen Brett, too.
Championing community spirit in Bramhall
I Love Bramhall is a strong campaigner for community spirit, as our readers are sure to know. Last year, I Love Bramhall founder Wendy Green won a special award for arranging this popular event – she was presented with a Community Hero accolade from Stockport Council, which is awarded to special citizens who go that extra mile, often without recognition or reward.
Wendy commented:
“I am thrilled to be organising the Big Bramhall Free Tea Party for the fifth consecutive year. This is such an important event that brings everyone together in a show of respect and support for our senior citizens, who have spent so much of their lives giving to the community themselves.
“To receive a Community Hero Award was a wonderful surprise. I set up this event with a view to ending loneliness and providing that vital social element missing from so many older people’s lives, especially for those who are perhaps not very mobile or who don’t have the opportunity to get out often. Promoting Bramhall’s community spirit is something I dedicate a lot of time to but I never expected such touching recognition – just giving back is reward enough for me.”
Extra special thanks goes out to our sponsors Cheshire Hearing Centres and Jon Richard Jewellery, as well as the team at Bramcote and the many businesses that have so kindly donated their products, services and time to make this event happen – you’re our community heroes!
