Afternoon Delight: The Big Bramhall Free Tea Party 2019

17 Jul 2019

The sixth annual Big Bramhall Free Tea Party was another resounding success thanks to the goodwill of our kind-hearted community. Held at St Michael and All Angels Parish Church on July 5th, the fabulous event welcomed more than 300 of Bramhall’s older residents, who were treated to an afternoon of sunshine, music and delicious food.

The event was made possible thanks to generous contributions from many local businesses, who offered their time and services to ensure there was plenty of fun to be had at this year’s tea party. Special thanks goes out to the key sponsors Prydderch Financial Planning, Silk Road Restaurant and Sunrise Senior Living for their generosity.

Cheshire Hearing Centres, Sinclair Law, Vernon Building Society and Prestbury Travel also kindly sponsored the event, while councillors from Bramhall North and Bramhall South & Woodford gave generous donations, which really helped make this year’s tea party the wonderful afternoon that it was. The wonderful Stretch Tents allowed us to use their marquee at a discounted price! Music from Absolute DJs’ Gary and Cheshire Community Choirs entertained the guests, along with stunning performances by Bramhall High School students.

Guests were waited on by pupils, who served plates of goodies donated by Papa John’s Pizza Cheadle Hulme, Silk Road TapasFord’s Lane Evangelical Church, Louise Lessells, B2B International, Your Support Team Ltd, The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan with Sara Butler, Anytime Fitness AND Notcutts Garden Centres. Phew! A whopping 150 scones donated by Marjoe’s were enjoyed with cream and lashings of jam donated by SuperJam, while a Mr Whippy ice cream van whipped up nostalgic summer treats.

The party atmosphere was complete thanks to decorations and board games provided by Crookilley Crafts Emporium, Fran Smith and The Happy Potter, while reps from Guinot Bramhall offered complimentary pampering during the afternoon. Guests also brought home beautiful brooches free of charge thanks to Jon Richard Jewellery and tins of sweeties thanks to Hatters

Stalls from Age UK Stockport, Station Road Opticians, Home Instead Senior Care Acacia Homecare Stockport, Amaranth, Bramhall Park Physio, Oddfellows Friendly Society offered important guidance and information, and 4th Bramhall Scout Group gave a much-appreciated helping hand with logistics the day before.

The event was beautifully photographed by Gillian Walsh.

Joining us at the tea party was Stockport’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoress John and Christine Wright, who were full of praise for the event.

Deputy Mayoress Christine commented: “It’s great to see everyone having a wonderful time and enjoying the impressive variety of stalls here today.” The entertainment also went down a treat, with Deputy Mayor John remarking that the music from Bramhall High School was “excellent and indicative of a very good school”.

Reverend Calum Piper from St Michael’s spoke of the joy he felt to be hosting such a special event yet again, saying:

“It’s an incredible occasion welcoming people who may sometimes be overlooked and showing them how loved and valued they are in the community.”

I Love Bramhall and I Love Cheadle Hulme’s very own Wendy Green commented:

“Seeing everybody walk through the door each year to enjoy another afternoon of fun, food and friendship always inspires me to put the tea party on again next year. Warmest thanks goes out to all the local businesses and individuals who help to capture the essence of the community in this lovely event.”

MP Mary Robinson, who was also present to enjoy the tea party, commented:

“This is a fantastic community event which provides a great opportunity for the older residents of Bramhall to get together. Many thanks to everybody involved in making the day a success, and especially to Bramhall High School for the help and the music.”

Councillors Linda Weekes-Holt and Allana Vine added to the tributes, saying:

“It’s wonderful to see the event get bigger every year – and especially to see the older and younger generations enjoying each other’s company so much.”

I Love Bramhall was also thrilled to receive some very positive feedback from the guests in attendance. Jim Jones, who moved to Bramhall from Southport with his wife, commented:

“This is our second year coming and we can’t get over the hospitality of the village. We’ve never experienced anything like this before!” Meanwhile, resident John Hershall said: “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve come here… my favourite part is always the food!”

Local Myra Tanner said: “It’s my third time coming to the tea party and I enjoy it very much. I like meeting with friends over a cup of tea.” Meanwhile, resident Dave Langton commented: “Great work again, Wendy and team. I love meeting people here, and of course the entertainment.”

Cheshire Community Choirs

And that concludes another very successful Big Bramhall Free Tea Party! Thanks once again to the generosity of the community and everybody involved in showing Bramhall’s older residents how very appreciated they are. See you next year!
