Tribute to Norman Harris : 1920 – 2016
31 Jul 2016We are very sad to announce that Norman Harris, War Veteran and well known character in Bramhall sadly passed away on Thursday 14th July at Stepping Hill Hospital aged 96 years old.
Norman, who lived in Bramhall had three daughters, his wife died in 2012 aged 90. Norman was often seen at Bramhall events, including the Bramhall Festival and Remembrance Day services.
Norman was probably the longest serving member of Stockport Rugby Club, previously Davenport RUFC and was a past President. He joined the club in 1936 and was President in 1966/68 and until recently he was to be seen regularly cleaning the changing rooms on a Monday morning.
He was also a member of the Woodford and Bramhall Royal British Legion.
Norman served in the army during the Second World War. He was stationed with the Royal Artillery with 71st East Lancashire regiment, his Second World War experiences included North Africa, Italy and finally Normandy. His memories of that time were always absorbing particularly when he was enjoying his occasional half pint of Guinness!
There is a private cremation first then a Memorial Service at Woodford Church at 12noon on Monday 1st August 2016 followed by refreshments at Bramhall Golf Club.
A true gent he will be sorely missed by those who knew him and we think of his family and friends at this very sad time.
Rest in Peace Norman Harris.
