Charity asks Cheadle Hulme to turn pink for breast cancer
30 Aug 2016A Manchester-based charity is calling on Cheadle Hulme residents to help paint their town pink to support its fight against breast cancer.
Prevent Breast Cancer, which is the UK’s only charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, is set to stage a special five-day bonanza to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and is asking everyone from tiny tots to great-grandparents to get involved.
Formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, Prevent Breast Cancer marks its 20th anniversary this year and is planning to transform a series of towns into pink havens to raise much-needed funds. The charity’s Cheadle Hulme event will run from 28 September until 3 October and will include a huge ‘pink parade’ on Saturday 1 October. Beginning at The Governor’s House pub on Ravenoak Road, the parade will head through the High Street and finish in Oak Meadow Park. Now, the charity is calling on local residents to sign up and don their finest pink attire for the event.
Suzanna Dhawan, event manager at Prevent Breast Cancer, said:
“As a Manchester-based charity, we’re extremely proud of our roots and are passionate about involving local people in our quest to predict and prevent breast cancer for future generations. Our five-day event in Cheadle Hulme is the perfect opportunity to drum up support as we enter our next exciting chapter as Prevent Breast Cancer. We want families of all ages to get involved and join our parade to prevent breast cancer and help spread our message.”
Sponsored by Bramhall Financial & Drainage Consultants Ltd, Paint Cheadle Hulme Pink will launch on Wednesday 28 September with an exclusive fashion show at Gusto, featuring jewellery stalls, a raffle and entertainment. Priced at £25, tickets include prosecco on arrival and a two-course meal. Proceeds from the event will go to Prevent Breast Cancer.
The John Millington pub will host a charity quiz night on 29 September, while a Pink Pub Crawl will kick off from there the following evening. Armed with a map of local watering holes, participants can complete the route over the course of the weekend, which will also include stops at The Chiverton Tap, The Governors, The Hesketh, The Kenilworth, Platform 5, The Board Cafe & Bar and The Church Inn. Unique offers will be available to anyone wearing a Prevent BC gel wristband, which are on sale throughout Cheadle Hulme from September.
Other key events taking place include an artisan market at The Precinct on 1 October (for stall enquires please contact Julie at Pets Corner) and a Mamma Mia tribute night at The Governors House, while Chinese restaurant Rainbow 88 has chosen Prevent Breast Cancer as one of its two chosen charities for its 17th birthday celebrations. The restaurant will ask banquet diners for a £15 donation in lieu of payment on 2 October, half of which will then be given to Prevent Breast Cancer. Chapel Holistics are hosting a pamper pink day on 3 October and The Retreat are doing ‘All things Pink‘ pampering on 30 Sept & 1 Oct.
Suzanna added:
“As a charity, we have a huge support network in Cheadle Hulme – including Wendy & Kate from ILoveCheadleHulme.com and they’ve played a key role in helping us get to where we are today, but there’s still so much more to do. Our goal is to make breast cancer a disease of the past and we’re confident that, with the backing of our loyal supporters, we can make this dream a reality.”
Thanks too to Helen at Adeona Travel for the helping with bookkeeping we have already raised in excess of £1,500.
