I LOVE Local Businesses in Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre
25 Feb 2021What a year it’s been for our shops, restaurants, salons and businesses in Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre. Nobody’s escaped unscathed. Some have been hit harder than others. Now, more than ever, we need to support the local independents we love – and then continue to do so.
Everything on Your Doorstep
The Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre is home to a wealth of diverse businesses from small independents to a couple of high street names. Here in Cheadle Hulme there are several smaller shopping areas, but Station Road and the Shopping Centre remain the hub of Cheadle Hulme, and thus a great place for a business to be.

Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre Through the Ages
Over the years, the precinct – as it was known – has housed a high street bank, a Rumbelows electrical supplies shop, a shoe shop (wouldn’t we all just love another shoe shop?), a freezer-food shop, a traditional butcher (anyone else remember Trimble & Cartwright pork pies?) and even a cheese shop. There was the incredible Mr Morgan’s, where every price was low – and ended in a half-pence. Later came Tommy’s amazing hardware shop. He seemed to stock everything – and knew exactly where to find it. Previous and much-loved occupants were the This and That toy shop and La Rosa’s café. There, apparently, the windows always steamed up so nobody could see any naughty truants! At one time, there was even a car showroom…
Very much a building of its time, recently the Shopping Centre has enjoyed a bit of a facelift. A splash of colour, some benches and planters do make a difference. New businesses quickly snap up units as they become available. Only lately, SK8Dental has taken a prominent position to offer first class private dentistry and cosmetic treatments. Another recent arrival is the adorable concept of Baby Sensory. Lockdown has paused activities, but we loved to see the shopping centre full of mums and babies. Fingers crossed Natalie’s unique baby classes will be back soon. Monkhouses is still a shopping centre stalwart, supplying uniform for all the local schools – and for many much further afield. In terms of longevity, Monkhouses are synonymous with Cheadle Hulme, much like Waterhouse’s, Snape & Son, J. Pimlott and Harry Berger.
Retreat, Self Care and Hair in the Heart of the Village
Cheadle Hulme favourite, Chapel Holistics chose to relocate to the shopping centre a few years ago and haven’t looked back. Welcoming owner, Laura has made some changes and new additions – though Chapel remains an oasis of serenity in the middle of bustling real life. Simply head up the stairs to the sanctuary-like retreat and feel your cares melt away. The beauty industry has been hit hard by lockdowns and restrictions and we are all looking forward to our Chapel Time again. Beauty and holistic treatments taken care of, you can also get your hair done, just round the corner at Laura Caroline. There’s M&K Barbershop to take care of the gents’ hair, too – a traditional Turkish barber, working on appointments and walk-ins.

Chapel Holistics Beauty Retreat

Amici brings delicious Italian dishes with a twist and has thrived as a takeaway this year. George and his team also have a sumptuous dessert delivery service, What the Fudge. For excellent coffee and one of the best bacon butties around, visit Hudson’s Coffee Shop. Jo also stocks an eclectic gift range. Costa and Subway add the big names to Cheadle Hulme’s café culture. The Simply Tiles and Bathrooms showroom in the shopping centre is simply stunning. Simply Tiles & Bathrooms provide design, supply and installation. The showroom has an inspiring display of contemporary and traditional bathrooms and tiles.
