Cheadle Hulme Turned Pink To Raise thousands for Prevent Breast Cancer

3 Nov 2017

Prevent Breast Cancer can confirm that Cheadle Hulme raised over  £10,000 at Paint Cheadle Hulme Pink

Businesses in Cheadle Hulme transformed the town into a sea of pink to raise over £10,000 to help protect future generations from breast cancer.

More than 30 businesses joined forces as part of Paint Cheadle Hulme Pink in aid of Manchester-based charity Prevent Breast Cancer, which is the UK’s only charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.

The campaign, supported by I Love Cheadle Hulme ran from Monday 25 September, included a series of fundraising events such as a family fun day, a pub quiz, a pink parade and a pink pamper session, with a special Pink Wrap Party at The Village Hotel on 13 October to bring proceedings to a close.

The success of Paint Cheadle Hulme Pink was celebrated at a special event on 25 October at Equity Housing, the main sponsor of the campaign. The event saw Coronation Street star and patron of Prevent Breast Cancer Sally Dynevor officially unveil ‘The Tree of Hope’ – a piece of artwork made up of pink handprints from local community members in support of the charity, which will remain on permanent display at the Cheadle Hulme offices.

Suzanna Dhawan, the event manager at Prevent Breast Cancer, said:

“Cheadle Hulme has certainly not let us down this year – the businesses really pulled out all the stops to hold their events and rally the community together. It was incredible to see everyone getting behind the charity and championing our cause, helping us to promote our message.”

Prevent Breast Cancer launched its Paint Towns Pink initiative last year to encourage local communities to raise awareness and get involved in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, with neighbouring towns such as Macclesfield, Hale and Chorlton having also staged their own events. Last year’s campaign saw Cheadle Hulme alone raise just under £15,000 which, added to this year’s figure, results in a total contribution of almost £25,000 from the town.

Suzanna added:

“Our ultimate goal is to protect future generations from the disease so that it doesn’t exist and we’re committed to building our network of supporters who can help make this happen. Next year, we want to make Paint Cheadle Hulme Pink bigger and better, but we’re also eager to build relationships all year round, so we’re keen to hear from businesses and communities to see how we can work together.”

We have been truly humbled by the way Cheadle Hulme residents, businesses and community groups have come together and it’s a huge THANK YOU to all involved – we couldn’t have done it without you.

A huge thank you goes out to the following people and businesses for their help, energy, fundraising ideas, bunting purchases and donations into making this event so special and to all the local residents who were out in force for the various events.
