Cheadle Hulme Winner for Paws and Play in the Park

16 May 2017

I LOVED Paws and Play in the Park, a Truly Woofly Day in Bramhall! For the second year running, the hundreds of visitors to Paws and Play in the Park enjoyed a fantastic day out sponsored by our local Bramhall Area Committee, Mercato and Barkers of Wilmslow.

Organised by I love Cheadle Hulme & I Love Bramhall  along with the fabulous Friends of Lumb Lane Park, we joined forces to create another magnificent day for the local community – and beyond. This year’s furthest entrant to the dog show was from Liverpool!

The Sun Had His Hat On

Everybody enjoyed themselves in the glorious sunshine, the jazz band played, and of course we were all grateful for the freshly-made pizza and prosecco from Mercato, the hog roast from Cheeky Swine, Hungry Little Critters, coffee and cakes from Azulito and KUPPA Coffee and ale from the Mounting Stone!

We had pony rides, stalls and fun and games for all the family.

As well as the fun dog show, the day was also all about the official opening of Lumb Lane Park’s playground after Friends of Lumb Lane Park successfully raised more than £45k to upgrade the play equipment.

MP Mary Robinson, Bernard Burgess and members of the FOLLP committee and their children counted down to cut the red ribbon and officially open the playground to a much-deserved round of applause and cheers.

Alejandra Solis, chair of The Friends of Lumb Lane said:

“Monday was such a great day, real icing on the cake, to see all our efforts pay off and the local community enjoying their new playground was just fantastic! We can’t wait for the new swings and carpet to be installed later this summer.”

The show was, yet again, such a success that we’re already planning for next year, so book the date in your diary, as 7 May 2018 will be another pawtastic day in Bramhall!

Dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and pedigrees mingled happily and strutted their stuff in classes such as Perfect Pedigree, Marvellous Mutt and Kid’s Best Buddy while judges struggled to decide which of the many, many gorgeous pooches should take the honours this year. I Love Bramhall’s own Darcey was guest of honour, while sadly I Love Cheadle Hulme’s Pablo and Bronnie were otherwise engaged. Of course, every single one was a winner, but on the day, the rosettes, certificates were awarded to the following and thanks to Notcutts for donating lovely prizes for all the class winners!

Once all the classes had taken place and winners decided, it was time for the grand finale – Best In Show. Any one of the class winners would have been a worthy champion, but this year it was beautiful Border Collie, Mabel with Wendy Rayner from Cheadle Hulme winning a photo shoot from Chelsea Shoesmith Photography. Last year’s Best in Show Benji, along with owner Tom, were happy to hand over their crown (or should that be collar?) Runners up were 2nd prize Duke and Martin Buckle from Wilmslow and 3rd went to Stanley and David Cooper.

Thanks again to our fabulous judges:

Once again we were pleased to be able to help raised over £423.76 for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. Richard and his wonderful Hearing Dog, Cameron, in attendance, representing the charity. So many of our brilliant local businesses donated raffle prizes contributing to the total figure – so a massive thank you to them.

And thanks to our lovely First Aider – Sylvia Thomas (luckily not required!) and Bramhall Village Club for allowing us to use their facilities.

So, all in all, a tremendous success. Thanks once again to the beautiful dogs and lovely people of Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and beyond.
