Friends of South Park, Cheadle Hulme

29 May 2016

Friends of South Park are a small group of local mums who have formed a community group with the aim to improve the recreational, environmental and educational facilities of the park (primarily the play area).

In case you don’t know, South Park is located on Grove Lane, Cheadle Hulme (between Manchester Rugby Club & the Pointing Dog).

The group was formed after one committee member returned from living in Australia, where she found that their recreational facilities put ours to shame! Having grown up frequenting South Park, she was really upset to see the lack of investment over the years and couldn’t believe it’s still home to the same play equipment she used some 30 years ago!  So when she returned to the UK in 2013, she wrote to the council regarding the state of parks, especially South Park and was amazed to find out they have no legal obligation to maintain or even provide parks and green space and often rely on community groups for much needed support. The group was then formed in October 2013!

South Park -Existing Play Area 1

Over the last 2.5 years they have managed to raise just over £70,000, that’s nearly half of their target. Fundraising to date has meant they can complete phase 1 of the play area redevelopment and works are currently taking place!

Friends of South Park are holding a Summer Fair on Sunday 3rd July from 11- 4pm and will be officially opening phase 1 of the play area, so they are inviting the local community to join them to celebrate!

All monies raised from the fair will go towards phase 2, which will fund new toddler equipment.

You can keep up to date on developments
