I LOVE At The Kitchen
21 Aug 2018At the Kitchen is a multi-function kitchen space in Cheadle Hulme. Stylish yet welcoming, state-of-the-art yet friendly, At the Kitchen is something completely new and different in Cheadle Hulme.
A real breath of fresh air, in fact. The same goes for the tuition – there’s no pressure, it’s not intimidating or school-like. At the Kitchen has a really laid-back vibe. helped along by a glass of wine and an informal chat.
Created by the renowned cook, writer and food stylist Angela Boggiano, along with her husband, well-regarded photographer Craig Robertson, At the Kitchen is an exciting cookery school – and a versatile event space. Between them, Angela and Craig have totally reinvented a previously unloved building. The property on Warren Road, just down from Harry Berger, has been around a long, long time – and it showed…
Serendipity, Potential and Transformation
Somewhat serendipitously, Angela and Craig saw the building sometime before it actually became available. Straight away, they could see the potential. The transformation from a no-frills butty shop (and what used to be the adjoining stationers, Garratt & McGann) has been a true labour of love. Craig’s past life as a builder meant the couple undertook most of the renovation themselves. This has worked out well, ensuring the space developed to fit their needs – even uncovering some fantastic finds from the building’s history which have been incorporated into At the Kitchen. Angela and Craig love that people have been watching the development take shape with such interest and so supportively.
At the Kitchen is all about great food and inspirational cooking. This bright, airy, and contemporary space, with its innovative Fisher & Paykel appliances, will be THE place for cookery workshops as well as a plethora of functions. Classes will be benefit from Angela’s considerable experience and expertise – as well as regular visiting cooks, chefs and other experts. Classes will be hands-on with lots of specialist help and advice, tailored to building confidence in cooking for beginners, improvers and experienced cooks alike. Kids’ and students’ courses have already proved particularly popular.
Cooking with Love
The focus will be on quality ingredients (using local suppliers such as Waterhouses, Pimlott’s and Corrys so Angela can be assured of the provenance of the food) and learn to prepare, cook and taste fabulous tried-and-tested recipes which can then become part of your own repertoire. The list is endless, and Angela aims to accommodate anyone’s requests. Private workshops can also be arranged – Italian cooking and wine with the girls, anyone? Classes thus far have included:
• Everyday Simple Suppers
• Kids’ Cooking Classes
• Mezze Menu
• Vegetarian Indian
• Healthy Simple Suppers
• Easy Summer Entertaining
• Parent (or Grandparent) and Child Cooking
• Vegetarian and Vegan
• Indian Street Food
• Off to University
• Tapas
Cooking for Christmas
Angela’s already working towards classes for more substantial Wintry comfort-food and planning the perfect Christmas, so watch this space for sessions for:
• Christmas Cake
• Christmas Pudding
• Party food
• Classic Accompaniments
• Filling the Freezer
• Christmas Foodie Gifts
At the Kitchen really is an amazingly adaptable, versatile and multi-functional space. Everything is moveable, and there’s a second kitchen so all the prep and clear-up is taken out of the way. Classes are kept small to maximise one-to-one tuition and guidance while keeping a friendly, informal atmosphere. Workshops are relaxed, informative and fun with plenty of time for questions and interactions. Each session ends with a chance to sample the dishes with a drink.
Not Just Cooking
There are very few limits – use your imagination and Angela will design classes to demand, so if you have an idea, give her a shout – she’ll be happy to help. It’s not just cookery though. The space can be used for all manner of functions or events and gatherings, as well as other courses and workshops. These have included, but are no means limited to:
• Photography for Beginners
• Food photography
• Flower Hair Braiding
• Hand-tied Bouquets
• Autumnal and Halloween Tablescapes
Tailored to You
At the Kitchen can also tailor-make a truly bespoke session. Angela has recently hosted a Health Eating social for a local personal trainer’s clients, and a Cheadle Hulme School Mums’ night. She’s also looking at introducing Supper Clubs in the not-too-distant future. It’s always good to welcome a new venture to Cheadle Hulme, especially one so very different and I Love Cheadle Hulme can’t wait to sample a class and enjoy a social event. Exciting times indeed.
