I LOVE Ramekins Restaurant, Cheadle Hulme
26 Aug 2019Ramekins Restaurant is Cheadle Hulme’s newest little gem of an eatery – and what a welcome addition to our village it is. Ramekins is on Station Road – handy – but nestled above the Garam Masala. Tucked away from the high street hustle and bustle, Ramekins is light, bright and very different.
Marzia and Claudio – both well known for delectable dishes in their past lives – created Ramekins. Marzia became well known for her always-sold-out pop up tapas and Mediterranean nights at popular Turves Road Café, while Claudio was the talented chef at La Casetta, the popular Italian eatery in the Shopping Centre. There, he brought his Napolitana Nonna’s mouth-watering food to Cheadle Hulme – and made Nonna famous. Ramekins is a dream come true.
Introducing a Whole New Style of Eatery
So, how did Ramekins come to life? The doors first opened late last year. This appeared to happen almost overnight, although as Marzia explains, that’s far from the truth. She saw the space some five years ago and knew instantly that is was ideal. Right away, her ideas began to take shape. Around the same time La Casetta was sold, and Marzia knew Claudio was the ideal partner for her venture. Ramekins started to become a reality. As with any new venture, there were hiccups along the way and hard work in spades – but Ramekins was worth every drop of blood, sweat and tears. The pair really do make the perfect partnership – both tangibly love what they do. Claudio makes magic in the kitchen and Marzia’s the fabulous front-of-house host-with-the-most.
Space Reinvented – Food Reinvigorated
The fresh, airy and welcoming space is a world away from what is was before. They’ve reinvented an old, tired and neglected space, so Marzia and Claudio are thrilled with their story so far. The reviews are already invariably excellent. After all, what’s not to love? Service is superb, everything is cooked fresh to order from quality ingredients – and they’ve had some fun adding specials, tweaking the menu and introducing beer deliveries from the Chiverton Tap.
Recent customer Steph – on her third or fourth visit – says “the food is just SOOOOO good. Picking a few different dishes each means lots of variety. If you’re not sure, Marzia will help you choose. We love it here – and it doesn’t break the bank, either. Our party of eight – including a vegetarian and a pescatarian – couldn’t have eaten another morsel.” Ramekins also caters for vegan and gluten-free diners. Everyone really is welcome – there are games and colouring activities for the diddier diners.
Fabulous Food, Delectable Desserts…
What is it that makes Ramekins so totally and completely different to our other local eateries? Bring-your-own alcohol is obviously a big draw – although there’s a well-stocked bar too, as well as that clever collaboration with the Chiv, and a choice of cocktails – but it’s more than that. There’s no strict or limited cuisine – Ramekins isn’t just Italian, Greek or Spanish. Instead, dishes are inspired by the best from across all Mediterranean menus. The tapas style means no tricky decisions to make. Choose three – or more – small dishes of utter deliciousness. Share with friends, add some sides and breads and talk the night away. It’s a lovely, sociable way to eat out. Desserts aren’t neglected either. Claudio’s takes on tiramisu will delight. Lemon is always popular, as is strawberry. Imagine then, chocolate orange tiramisu. Mint chocolate. Black Forest…
Watch This Space
Ramekins is also the perfect space for a bit of a do. From a children’s party to a 100th, any occasion or celebration will be made even more memorable. Watch this space for news of Christmas and banquet menus… Marzia’s also looking at bringing special events to Ramekins. She’s thinking wine tasting, maybe a quiz night to begin with. We’re in. For both!
