I LOVE The John Millington, Cheadle Hulme
26 Apr 2016The John Millington first opened in July 2004 and was a breath of fresh air for Cheadle Hulme. Hydes Bewery restored, extended and sympathetically improved the beautiful Grade II listed Millington Hall. Cheadle Hulme has never looked back!
Millington Hall was built in the late 17th century by Alderman John Millington. Located in the Lane End hamlet of Cheadle Hulme, it was more recently owned by old Cheadle Hulme family, the Hazeldines. The building has had many uses. Agriculture, silk works, even Methodist meetings. Maurice Herraiz ran Millington Hall restaurant there, for fifteen years.
Cheadle Hulme’s Place to Be…
Simply THE place to be on Friday and Saturday night in Cheadle Hulme, the John Millington is also buzzing throughout the week. This is thanks to excellent food, live music at weekends and superb Sunday lunches as well as a friendly and welcoming team headed by Gav, Rob and Chris.
Gav has only been in charge for a year, but has fitted in perfectly and really looks after his customers. He was specially requested by the area manager – who was the very first manager when the John Millington opened. Everyone’s treated like a regular and made to feel important. It’s no mean feat to improve on something already so good – but Gav has done just that. The food is better than ever – as Gav says, ‘locally sourced, fresh – and premium’. The menu changes frequently and never disappoints. The John Millington carries an extensive range of quality wines, beers and spirits, catering for every taste.
Special Events…
Gav and the team have recently overseen a transformation of the outdoor area. It looks stunning now, and will comfortably seat far more people. The official launch on 29 April promises to be a night to remember! Gav’s also intending to introduce lots of special offers and events, like discounted cocktails and happy hours. Come Summer, with Euro2016 in full swing, there’ll even be footy widows’ nights. Other offers will be EXCLUSIVE to I Love Cheadle Hulme! Be sure to watch this space…
Nobody at the John Millington sits on their laurels. Competition has increased over the years, with Gusto, Platform5 and the Chiverton Tap all coming to Cheadle Hulme. It says something that despite this – or perhaps because Cheadle Hulme HAS this choice – the John Millington remains consistently busy. The roomy car park doesn’t hurt, either.
Gav LOVES Cheadle Hulme!
Originally from Southport, Gav now LOVES living in Cheadle Hulme. He’s ably supported by his assistant managers. There’s the lovely, ever-smiling Chris, who’s a real local lad. He attended Lane End Primary school, CHHS and Cheadle College before starting work at the John Millington. He started off working behind the bar, before Gav spotted his potential and promoted him. He works alongside Gav’s other right-hand man, Rob, who was covering until Gav arrived. He loved Cheadle Hulme and the John Millington so much he decided to stay. All are committed to continuing the good work. They want the John Millington to be part of the community and are happy to help with charities and fundraisers. They’re also happy to host parties, with no room charge for a minimum number.
There’s a lot to love about the John Millington. We’ll see you there for fizzy Friday (if not before)!
