I LOVE Wolfenden Barber Shop
12 Aug 2016Wolfenden’s Barber Shop is a great asset within the Cheadle Hulme community, which is replicated with the character of the owner – Lee Wolfenden.
He opened the shop in 2012 after working in Wilmslow for 12 years as a gents’ hairdresser and deciding he wanted to try his hand in owning his own barber shop – a very admirable decision in an era of entrepreneurial struggle. Four years down the line and the success is credit to Lee and proof that he made the right decision!
On a more personal side of things, Lee has twin girls aged 5 and a little boy who is 18 months old. He’s currently engaged to his beautiful fiancé and they’re planning to get married in 2018! I’m sure you’ll all join us in wishing all the happiness in the world to the happy couple! Born in Chorley, Lee moved to Bramhall when he was young and attended Hursthead School, coincidentally where his daughters now go! Bramhall High School saw Lee in his teenage years and since then he’s moved to one place or another, but always ended up back in Cheadle Hulme – the epicentre of all that’s good in life (we obviously think that at ILCH!) including The Church Inn and The Pointing Dog, some of Lee’s – and so many people’s – favourites! Tang’s is so well thought of in and around the Cheadle Hulme area and it’s no different with Lee – he actually had had a takeaway from there the night before we met! We don’t blame you!
Supporting local business is something which so many of us are fond of and Lee is no different – whether it be Chinese from Tangs, a curry from the Barinda or buying meat from the “fantastic butchers” Pimlott’s, he’s keen to support other small businesses and we certainly hope that people continue to support him in his wonderful work so far.
Number 8, Church Road is the location of Wolfenden’s barber shop and as soon as you walk in you’re struck with a cool, chilled out Manchester vibe. The walls are littered in Oasis, Joy Division and Smiths posters which you won’t catch us complaining about as well as the odd sporting icon poster too. This adds to the atmosphere of being somewhere that you WANT to be. You don’t mind waiting a few minutes to wait your turn because it’s a NICE place to be. So many barber shops nowadays have overdone the minimalistic look and Wolfenden’s is a healthy reminder that getting your hair cut can indeed be an enjoyable experience from start to finish.
Lee tries to separate himself from the rest of the market by using his masterful scissor techniques rather than using the clippers at any opportunity just to save time. This technique is extremely popular with his customers who won’t go anywhere else and pass on their recommendations to friends and family. Some of these recommendations of Lee’s techniques have led to superstars getting their hair cut by him! Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic, Nani, Robbie Savage, Bernard Sumner and Ryan Thomas just to name a few!
Next time you need your hair cut, consider Wolfenden’s. Ring up and book an appointment. You’ll soon become one of his regulars and you KNOW he’s going to do a good job. Not only would celebrities not go to him if he wasn’t any good, but the experience he has in the job combines with his scissor technique to leave a smile on every customer’s face so far – check out his Facebook page and the pictures to see for yourself! Long may it continue Lee!
