J.Pimlott celebrates 150 years

22 Nov 2019

Christmas is always the biggest (and busiest) date in the diary for legendary local butchers J. Pimlott, but this year it’s extra special as they celebrate a milestone 150 years in business.

Whereas many large retailers have come and gone during that time, this independent family business In Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire has thrived. We asked fifth-generation Master Butcher Richard Pimlott about the secret of their success.

“When my great grandfather, Joseph Pimlott, first set up shop in Gorton in 1869, he was committed to finding and preparing only the finest quality produce for his customers.  Many things might have changed since Joseph’s day, but J.Pimlott remains a local, family business dedicated to delivering outstanding service and quality produce that the supermarkets simply cannot match”

So what’s on the menu at Pimlotts this Christmas?

Well… in-between preparing hundreds of turkeys and working 7 days a week at Christmas to satisfy each and every customer’s requests, the family will be running a series of special events and competitions to celebrate 150 years in business including the chance to win a dinner party for 8 people with a private chef, a cooking master class with At The Kitchen, a luxury Christmas Hamper and much more…

“We really wanted to make this Christmas extra special and to thank all our customers for supporting us through the years“ said Richard Pimlott.

We also quizzed Richard about how people’s Christmas dinner choices are changing, for those of you who may cry, ‘Not Turkey again?!’

Richard replied: “Well you can’t beat a traditional free range turkey, as long as you don’t overcook it! However we see an increasing demand for alternatives such as 28 day matured rib of beef, Gressingham duck and geese. Our family loves a traditionally cured gammon joint alongside the turkey for a lovely balance of flavour on the plate”
