More to LOVE About Club Cheadle Hulme
22 May 2019The amazing Club Cheadle Hulme just keeps going from strength-to-strength. Every week there are new members, and lots more clubs benefitting from the fabulous facilities. This is SO much more than a gym or sports centre, though…Based at the old Cheadle Hulme Recreation Centre, that is where any similarity ends. Gone is the slightly stale smell, the tired changing rooms and the past-their-best facilities. Following an extensive refurbishment, Cheadle Hulme and our outstanding, top-performing Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) now have a sports facility to boast about.
Investing in Sport
A huge investment from the Law Family Educational Trust has delivered a fantastic fitness experience, which includes a brand-new gym, boasting the most innovative machines and equipment. This upgrade – with more to follow – has been made possible by Cheadle Hulme High School ex-pupil and now local hero, Andrew Law. The Law Family Charitable Foundation was set up in 2011 to support the Laurus Trust – the multi-academy trust with Cheadle Hulme High School at its epicentre.
A Facility for the Future
Do you, too, remember the ‘sports hall’ from Woods Lane PE lessons in the 80s and 90s? Or maybe you were a pupil before me? Go and see the spectacular transformation. The facilities bear no resemblance to those back in the day. Andrew Law explained at the official opening, back in 2016, money is simply a necessity in sport. Around 80% of top professionals and sportspeople come from a private school background. However, about 90% of children are state-educated. That’s a shocking and rather sad disparity.
So, Club Cheadle Hulme is a superb addition to the already table-topping and incredibly sought-after Cheadle Hulme Hugh School. These are sports facilities to rival any private school. After school hours, these state-of-the-art facilities are available to all. So is the friendly, supportive and expert team.
Fabulous Facilities
Club Cheadle Hulme brings excellent indoor and outdoor sporting facilities to Cheadle Hulme. The astro pitch is probably the best around, there’s a second smaller astro and refurbished tennis courts. The impressive sports hall is available for block and casual bookings. On offer are a wide range of sporting activities including badminton, basketball, cricket, football, netball, table tennis and tennis. There’s a magnificent dance studio, complete with sprung floor, and a brand-new fitness gym with extremely reasonable membership – even pay as you go, supervised sessions for 12-15 year olds. Prices are refreshingly reasonable, too.
Activities, classes and clubs available throughout the week include:
- Boxercise
- Fitness Yoga
- Iyangar Yoga
- KettFusion
- Bums Legs & Tums
- Pilates
- Dance Fit
- SK Football Coaching Development Academy
- Pay-and-Play football on the incredible 4g pitch
- Sunday Sports Club
- Space for dance or sports parties
- Dance Classes with Sophie Dee School of Dance and Fiona Watson School of Dance
MORE Fabulous Facilities
Sports Centre Director, Rob Clare – a former Stockport County player – is rightly proud of what’s been achieved so far. Club Cheadle Hulme has an undeniable ‘wow factor’. His vision is for the local community to gain as much from the facilities as possible, improving health and wellbeing throughout Cheadle Hulme. His enthusiasm for Club Cheadle Hulme’s mission is evident. He lives here in Cheadle Hulme and knew just what an opportunity this is – for the school, the sports centre AND the entire community.

Rob Clare
In an exciting new development, Rob’s equally excellent Assistant Manager, Mike Brickhill is now Manager at the all new Club Laurus, just down the road. Club Laurus – which opened last week – is a little smaller but shares the same passion and ethos – bringing superb sports facilities to our local school and wider community. There is already badminton and kids’ futsal available as well as facilities for basketball, dodgeball and netball. As with Club Cheadle Hulme, bookings, visits and enquiries are welcome – Mike will continue to look after you.
The friendly, welcoming and highly qualified staff at Club Cheadle Hulme and Club Laurus give their guests excellent sport and leisure opportunities and all the support they need. Everyone at both clubs wants to keep adding to these facilities in the future. Contact Rob or Mike for a chat – they’ll be more than happy to show you round and answer any questions.
I still LOVE Club Cheadle Hulme and now I LOVE Club Laurus, as well. You will too. And watch this space for news and further developments…
