Moxie Mingled Again at Profolk Space, Stockport Old Town
27 Jun 2022We were absolutely thrilled to be invited back to the wonderful Profolk Space, the loving and sympathetic reinvention of the once-infamous Yates Wine Lodge. Standing proudly on the Market Square, in Stockport’s magnificent, historic Old Town area, Profolk is a wonderful and flexible co-working hub.
Here’s a snippet from the write-up of our last visit there: “Owners Jamie and Tara have lovingly and, as property developers, EXPERTLY transformed the old den of debauchery, Yates’ Wine Lodge, into a stunning and state-of-the-art co-working space, loved by creatives and freelancers. It’s always wonderful to see a once-unloved building with a somewhat chequered recent past restored to former glory, but with all mod cons.”

Old Town, New Moxie
Much has changed in the last two years. Yes, that’s right. Our last visit was in February, 2020. As the saying goes, the rest is history. All businesses have been adversely affected and Profolk will be no exception, so it’s wonderful to see them back to full strength and flourishing.
The other big change is that, at the time of our last visit, Tara was expecting, fairly imminently – so Jamie and Tara are now Mummy and Daddy to a toddler. Is it too late to say congratulations?!

Stockport’s Old Town is a Must-Visit
If you’ve not yet rediscovered the beauty and vibrancy of Stockport’s Old Town, then we can’t recommend it highly enough. Stockport town centre probably doesn’t conjure up images of beauty and architecture so Old Town delivers a very pleasant surprise. Even if, like us, you were familiar with Stockport’s once-bustling market through the 80s and 90s, you perhaps didn’t appreciate the stunning buildings, quirky features and classic architecture.
Historic inns have been joined by several newcomers, each with its own distinct personality. Profolk Space embodies everything that’s good about the Old Town: cherishing the character of the building while adding all mod cons. I Love Communities’ very own Hass had literally NO idea that this part of Stockport even existed and was simply blown away (edit from Hass: “I wasn’t THAT shocked…”). There’s character and atmosphere in spades, a friendly vibe and as the monthly Foodie Friday shows, it is loved. THIS is Stockport.

Perfect Profolk
Everyone was equally entranced by Profolk Space. Guided tours led to several surprises – private meeting rooms in subterranean chambers, original safes, brick arches. Even bright, airy spaces with exquisite windows. Last time our meeting space was below ground, this time we mingled on the ground floor, filled with natural light and beautiful period features.
Profolk looked after us brilliantly with delicious sandwiches and canapés and even fizz. The buzz of conversation filled the air as ever and time flew. Newbies joined regulars and as ever, the atmosphere was lovely. Everyone loved Profolk (just as everyone loves Moxie’s genuinely friendly and informal, yet highly productive, brand of networking).

No doubt a few fell newly in love with Stockport Old Town, too. Pretty sure our Hass will be heading back there soon.
