Restaurants in Cheadle Hulme Guide

19 Jan 2016

We are lucky to be totally spoilt with our wide range of restaurants in Cheadle Hulme, there are restaurants and eateries to cater for every imaginable taste, size of party and budget.

Whether it’s a classic carvery pub for Sunday lunch in Cheadle Hulme or satisfying Sunday roast, or Chinese, Italian or Indian restaurants, Cheadle Hulme has it all – right here on your doorstep.

As well as the many specialist restaurants in Cheadle Hulme, we’re blessed with a fine choice of more traditional eateries.  The John Millington – where many of us remember the old Millington Hall restaurant – has a dedicated restaurant area (although bar meals can be served throughout the pub).  The affectionately-known PD, or Pointing Dog, at the junction of Gillbent Road, Stanley Road and Grove Lane is cool and contemporary with a light, airy feel – a far cry from the old Smithy.  The Hesketh, on Hulme Hall Road has been recently reinvented but is still famed for its fantastic carveries and rich history. The a la carte menu has been extended so there’s something for everyone. If it’s fish and chips you fancy, Whittaker’s Fish Bar now has a self-contained restaurant, right next to the original chippy- which is still as popular as ever. Is Whittaker’s the oldest chippy in Cheadle Hulme?

Platform 5, next to Cheadle Hulme station, brings a distinctly Northern Quarter style to Cheadle Hulme and now shows football; while the King’s Tap has a similar style and retains an inexpensive menu. Other pubs also offer excellent food and at very reasonable prices – the March Hare, alongside the river and just off Ladybridge Road has a real country pub feel; the Governors House with its extensive outside area on Ravenoak Road; perennial favourite and Cheadle Hulme’s oldest hostelry,  the Church Inn on the corner of Church Road and Ravenoak; plus the Kenilworth offers particularly good value in friendly and welcoming surroundings (not to mention televised sport for the footy fans amongst us).

One of the longest-established restaurants in Cheadle Hulme is of course Rainbow88, in Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre, where Linda and Stephen offer delicious, freshly-cooked Cantonese and Chinese food, along with authentic Dim Sum, in sumptuous surroundings, as well as a takeaway service and catering for vegetarian or other dietary requirements. Tang’s on Church Road – which for many years was Wings – has recently undergone a refurbishment but still offers delicious cuisine in a welcoming environment.

There’s another restaurant in Cheadle Hulme shopping centre, too – Off the Hook, a New York Italian style eatery. Just a short stroll across Station Road, next to Oak Meadow, is Trattoria d’Agostino, an authentic Italian restaurant with a lovely ambience, specializing in pizza and pasta as well as delicious meat and fish dishes. You can even take your own wine… With a more contemporary vibe, there’s also Gusto, further up Station Road, occupying the ground-floor frontage of the ‘old AA building’. If you like Italian restaurants, Cheadle Hulme delivers! And not just Italian. Cheadle Hulme’s newest restaurant, Ramekins, delivers dishes from throughout the Mediterranean – and, although licensed, allows you to ‘Bring Your Own’.

Sometimes though, only a good curry will do, and of course there are superb Indian restaurants in Cheadle Hulme, too. The Garam Massala has been proudly serving authentic Balti cuisine to Cheadle Hulme since 1995 – and is conveniently located on Station Road. They also have an online ordering system for takeaways. Barinda on Gillbent Road in Cheadle Hulme offer an intimate dining experience, and customers are welcome to bring their own wine and beer, while Angon on Turves Road also has space for dining-in.
