Russ and Sam Snelson complete the 100 mile cycle challenge

16 Aug 2016

Married couple Russ and Sam Snelson completed their biggest challenge yet, the 100 mile cycle challenge for The Bone Cancer Research Trust

A number of years ago, Russ and Sam moved into their new house. Unbeknown to them, their next door neighbours were going through turmoil when Rick’s daughter Hannah was diagnosed with a primary bone cancer at the age of 17.

Sadly, Hannah passed away unfortunately, before they were able to meet her. Throughout her treatment she raised awareness of her condition and raised money for a little know charity – The Bone Cancer Research Trust. Too many young people die from this terrible disease. The Trust raises crucial funds for research into a cure. It’s a fantastic charity with equally amazing people working behind the scenes for it.

Although they didn’t meet Hannah they are very good friends with her family now. This was their chance to help support them and the Trust and to continue the good work of Hannah.

We caught up with Russ Snelson, the MD of Prestige Logic to find out more about what the challenge was all about.

Prestige Logic have a long established history of supporting charities and local events.  Each year we choose a charity to support. We’ve taken part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge and last year we walked Hadrian’s Wall.

“This year we chose to support The Bone Cancer Research Trust in memory of Hannah Booth, a bright young girl who sadly lost her life to a primary bone cancer at the age of 17.  Our team raised nearly £5,000 this year by taking part in the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 – a 100-mile cycle challenge on the same closed roads as the professionals.

“It was our toughest challenge yet but happy to report that everyone successfully crossed the 100-mile finish line at the end of the Mall in London. Blood (literally), sweat and tears, oh and a lot of high energy gels helped to propel us through the day and around the grueling 100 mile course but it was all worth it in the end.

“We are looking forward to next year’s challenge now. Iron man perhaps?  Maybe not. A huge thank you to everyone that helped, sponsored and supported us throughout our training and on the day.”

What can we say about that? Russ and Sam weren’t cyclists before this challenge so what an admirable achievement and for such an amazing cause.

For those that don’t know, Prestige Logic are an experienced provider of managed IT services to small and medium sized businesses in the North-West region of the UK, and until recently were based in Bramhall. Their aim is to look after other companies’ IT networks so that they don’t have to – and what a job they do at it. Russ is the proud MD of this fine company, who year on year continue to give back to the community through these grueling challenges.

Russ’ wife, Sam, is a director at PAL Hire of Cheadle Hulme. PAL Hire is the site set up specialist for both the event and construction industry, supplying a convenient solution to all hire requirements. Their goal is to save both time and money by taking the hassle out of hire, with thousands of hire items available at short notice whatever you want, wherever you want it. Pal Hire are no stranger to raising money for various charities throughout the year.

It is a wonder where these two businesspeople found the time to do the cycle challenge, so full marks must go to them both!

After the event, Russ joked

“I can sit down comfortably now! It was a very tough challenge but well worth it.”

We couldn’t agree more, £5,000 for a wonderful charity like this is an amazing way to remember Hannah. Thank you to all of the people who donated to the cause, but most of the thanks must go to Russ, Sam and their cycling team on a ride they’re unlikely to forget any time soon!
