Snapes sponsors Worker Bee Artisan Awards
18 Mar 2020Some exciting news for one of our top local estate agents has just been announced: Snapes will be sponsoring and judging a new awards scheme created especially to recognise and support Stockport artisans.
The Worker Bee Artisan Awards, launched by local market organiser Worker Bee Markets, will be open for nominations on May 1st and judged by a panel that includes Snapes’ Director Richard Pickford.
Aimed at artisan micro-businesses based in and selling across Stockport, the awards will include cash prizes, handmade awards and mentorships to help artisans grow their businesses and develop their trade.
Richard met the organisers of Worker Bee Markets during a house sale and, after learning about what they do to support trade in the local community, felt an immediate affinity for the concept.
“I loved the concept of what they do and stand for,” Ric commented. “Snapes is keen to help make the awards a success and we understand the financial requirements for that to happen – sponsoring the awards was the natural solution.”
Snapes say their values of encouraging people to shop locally and support local ventures are aligned with those of the Worker Bee Markets’ organisers.
“As one of the original independent businesses in the area – certainly “the original” independent estate agent – we know what it is like to go it alone with a passion for the industry you work in and risk everything to make it work,” Ric said.
“Nothing has changed today for a new start-up and if we can help other businesses get recognised, then that sounds like our kind of thing – especially in a world of “everything online”. We’re big on people buying from people.”
Ric added that he feels privileged to be hand-picked to judge the awards but also slightly nervous at having to select the winners. However, everyone will be a winner of some kind, he said, benefitting from the exposure – even if they don’t scoop the top award.
Prizes include the Honeycomb Award of up to £500 towards a piece of equipment to help a business grow, the Pollen Award of marketing support for new businesses and the Beeswax Award, which rewards sustainability and green criteria.
Traders and Makers can vote for the best venue in the Beekeeper Award and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite stall, which will be crowned the Bees’ Knees.
Winners will receive an award commissioned and handmade by their peers and a cheque for £100 each to help their business grow.
“We just wish everyone the very best of luck, and hope our local residents and businesses can get behind the event and continue to make Bramhall the vibrant and fantastic village it is,” Ric concluded.
