The annual big Bramhall Tea Party provides an afternoon of music, company and conversation to the senior residents of Bramhall and is completely free of charge. Each year, it gets bigger and better. Our local hero might not wear a cape, but she surely is super. Wendy has single-handedly organised the Big Bramhall Tea Party, securing the sponsors, funding and volunteers every year.

As always the school children from Bramhall High School helped, giving it a real sense of community, connecting old and young and everyone in between. Wendy ensures that everyone’s food, drink and transportation are perfectly organised, not only that, but she can certainly put up a great afternoon with music, entertainment, sample treatments and free gifts.

Cllr Bagnall, says:

“Wendy is a real credit to the community of Bramhall and worthy of being a Borough Hero.”

Wendy is humbled to receive the award and congratulates all our other Community Heroes, including:

  • Harry Needham has been nominated by Jan Atkinson as a community hero in the Borough Hero’ category. Harry, a Cheadle Hulme resident, has been steadfastly volunteering in the shop at Stepping Hill Hospital twice a week for the last 22 years. Harry is now 86 and rightly deserves recognition for the invaluable support he provides to our community.
  • Bob and Joan Owen have been nominated by Roger Burgess as a community hero in the ‘ Volunteering to promote independence in a community ’ category. Joan and Bob from Cheadle Hulme set up the Communicare volunteer group some 40 years ago to provide transport for older people to attend medical appointments at hospitals, dentists and local doctors. The group has in every sense, been driven by Joan and Bob who give up a great deal of their time for this much-appreciated service.
  • Nick Bishop has been nominated by Chris Jackson as a community hero in the ‘ Sport and exercise contributing to health and well-being in a community ’ category. Nick started the Bramhall Parkrun in April 2008 and has grown the venture to register 13,163 individual runners with an average attendance of 326 and has personally undertaken 467 Saturday morning races to date. His organisation of marshals and officials has ensured high standards of health, safety and running standards.
